Most everyone would grab an AR before a shotgun , that isnt in dispute . Something is always going to be better than nothing .Many choose to leave an inexpensive shotgun or SKS or whatnot , IN their vehicle 24/7 . I keep a cheap AK47 in mine.

CAIRO (AP) -- The Islamic State group claimed responsibility on Tuesday for a weekend attack at a center near Dallas, Texas, that was exhibiting cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad - though it offered no evidence of a direct link to the attackers.

"We tell ... America that what is coming will be more grievous and more bitter and you will see from the soldiers of the Caliphate what will harm you, God willing," it said.

"How are you (Americans) going to live when we create our lone wolves to be nuclear bombs ... by God, you can't match us and in the heart of your homes you will see," said one Twitter posting.

"Let anyone who wants to draw the picture of our Prophet to think one thousand times before doing so, because our hands can reach his neck," said another.

Threaten people's kids, take away their comfort, and disrupt the transportation of people and goods and this country would be begging for an all powerful government to make it stop.

The vast majority of the consumer goods moved in this country move on the back of a semi-truck. If bridges were taken out and the food can't get from the farms to the grocery stores, people would melt down. Imagine what Baltimore would look like after a week of no food on the shelves and no power.

I'm not afraid of terrorism here in the United States.

I'm afraid that our government will take full advantage of the suffering and fear of any victims, and use it to turn us further into a police state.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

It's far more likely heart disease, cancer, or a freak accident will get the majority of us. Fear is the only real reason they have been as successful as they have.

ETA: Pulling off a really successful terrorist attack on U.S. soil might be very bad for them. We invaded two countries and have waged a decade plus long war because of the last successful attack. The sheeple went back to sleep but another 9/11 would probably do more harm to the ISIS cause than anything.

I understand your point.

The Devils Advocate position is why have expensive, effective rifles if we don't have them with us if we are ever involved in a mass casualty type of attack. This type of attack is really the most likely (although it is not very likely) situation where a good AR might really make a big difference.

Mine comes in and out of the truck every day but then I also use it everyday.

If they regularly start attacking us here then no. You will be ordered to shelter in place, the .gov will use this to advance their power and take more of your rights away, there will be TSA and checkpoints everywhere (imagine TSA to enter a mall), gun restrictions, more Patriot Act legislation, etc.

Be careful for what you wish for

The .gov is moving that direction anyway.
