FWIW, FWD=HIV to me. Still, there were some relatively quick domestic FWD cars produced over the past 25 years that seem to have been completely forgotten about, while under-lit/winged imports seem to get celebrated for some reason. Can anyone think of a few quick (for the time or otherwise) domestic FWD's that have been forgotten?
I'd submit the Acheiva SCX W41, Lumina/Monte Carlo/Cutlass with the 3.4 DOHC or any Alero with a 5-speed and 3.4 SFI. What say the hive? |

Olds Aurora with the 4.0 was decently fast for it's size and time (circa 1998).

Eldorado’s ran good thanks to the Northstar and look outstanding

It was laughable, but the Turbo Colt in 84', was just a hair off of the Fastest.
Smog motors sucked. |

They made a Monte Carlo SS with a 5.3 LS in the mid to late 2000's. I was tempted to learn more about it, but FWD. I remember it made just over 300 hp.

I had an omni glh in high school, that thing was wicked quick back in the day. Made a few pretty boys in pony cars whimper with that little granny mobile.

Dodge/Chrysler put a turbo in a bunch of their FWD cars in the 90's.

1966 Oldsmobile Toronado
The Oldsmobile Toronado is a personal luxury car produced by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors from 1966 to 1992. Designed to compete with the Ford Thunderbird and GM's own Buick Riviera, the Toronado is historically significant as the first U.S.-produced front-wheel drive automobile since the demise of the Cord in 1937. They had a very early front wheel drive setup. |

Neon SRT
Cobalt SS Taurus SHO I suppose you could throw in the Diamond Star coupes (Plymouth Laser/Eagle Talon) although they weren't that magical in hindsight. |

Isuzu Impulse turbo, 160 hp, weighed 2400 lbs.
Stupid fast, especially for the early 90s. |
|
I had a 92 Grand Prix with the 3.4 Z34 DOHC motor.
It was not fast (although it was a little quicker than a Mustang 5.0)... |

Buick Park Avenue ultra with a supercharged 3.8l v6
Pontiac Gran Prix with the same motor. I had a 1999 PA Ultra...awesome car...very quick, great fuel economy, very comfortable, and had a very cool,HUD while driving. It may have seemed like an old man' scar...but it really was a sleeper from the word go. |

srt-4. awesome car. just a douchy community of owners had them

still driving my 02 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Not the fastest, but pretty good for a mid 90s design. 240 hp. supercharged. Easy to up that with a simple pulley swap.

A buddy in high school had a 1990 Dodge Daytona turbo that was pretty quick and a lot of fun. We were coming back from the in-laws late at night on a deserted 4 lane highway when we hit a red light on the outskirts of town. While stopped at the light, a kid in a ratted out Omni GLH-S pulled up next to us. As I was all geeked out and explaining how that wasn't just a POS hatchback-it was actually a quick car, that kid just matted it when the light changed. In a puff of tire/oil smoke he was absolutely gone... The amount of real estate he covered in that roughed up hatchback was something to behold.
The Taurus SHO is probably the most notable, therefore not really "forgotten". A second gen SHO with a 5-speed was definitely a going machine... Speaking of Ford, I always thought the Contour SVT was a neat car. Haven't seen one of those in awhile... The second generation Probe GT was also a quick car, but being essentially a Mazda- I'm not sure it makes my arbitrary requirements for "domestic" The Bonneville SSEi would have to make the list too, as would the Northstar equipped GXP. The Chevy Beretta's were kinda neat, again for what they were. IIRC, the 0-60 and 1/4 weren't all that far off of the Camaro... |

The supercharged version was fast but the turbo version could hang with exotic cars on the road course.

Define forgotten but on a racetrack if I have to have "domestic front wheel drive" a new Focus ST is the tits.
Sucks butt on the street though. |
|
Not sure about Domestic. I'd guess the Buick Riviera Supercharged was pretty close to the top.
Import...FWD...maybe Nissan Maxima, unless there's a V8 FWD. |
