I like gadgets and technology but I can't see see a smart watch being worth it.

Hell no. Citizen EcoDrive "Avion". Three hands and a date window.

No I like girls. View Quote Ha-ha!! Gadget guy here too. Actually bought a pebble but, I'm a watch guy. Don't know how I figured that was going to work. Sold it in the EE within a couple weeks of buying it. I think they will be like Bluetooth headsets and fade away pretty quickly. |

No. I have a lot of watches. Wear different ones all the time. Wouldn't be worth buying for me.

Not only do I not have a smart watch, but it is analog only.

I do have a pretty smart watch as far as watches fo. It tells the time, date, lights up when I raise my arm, has an alarm, compas, barometer and temp.
But only the time and date work like they should. |

I'm a watch guy (daily Sub wearer) and will buy one when the technology catches up with the style. They are nice looking and cool, but like all technology they will need bugs sorted out.

My watch shows the time, day of the week and day of the month. It never needs to be manually wound, and it doesn't require a battery. I can go swimming with it on, I can wear it in the shower, and it will never ever need a firmware update or have app compatibility issues.
Seiko 5, less than $50 any day of the week on Amazon. |
|
[#19]
I answered yes even though I returned my pebble steel after having it a week. The whole smartwatch thing just felt like a total gimmick.
If it was $50-75 I would have kept it. But at $199 I felt ripped off so back it went. |
|
[#20]
Yeah, it keeps time without batteries or winding. Pretty smart, eh?

|

I have one but haven't found a use for it. It's a samsung gear 2 neo I believe. Damn you Amazon Prime.

I can see the utility behind them, but for now I'm not sold. Pebble looks nice but Apple Watch offers a lot more functionality. But at the current price point, I'm not a buyer for the Apple watch and I think it's a few generations away from being very smooth and having bugs worked out. I might be in the market in 1-2 years.

My wife's boss gave her a Moto 360. She gave it to me. It's alright, I wear it sometimes.

No, I just have the phone shaped tracking/ listening/ surveillance device.

I bought one to try it out. It's become indispensable for me. I made my own watch face with just the basic info. I can do all sorts of stuff voice activated which is great because even holding my phone while driving a truck is a no-no on the federal level.
One night I had my phone going with an audiobook, the highway sign said that the road was closed ahead. Told my watch to navigate to my destination city (enough for a detour) and my phone started navigating. Didn't have to pull over. |

I have a Moto360.
It's neat. Tons of watch faces you can get for it. I have a real simple "Military" analog style watch face on it now. It tells the time. It vibrates and shows me notifications when I get them, so I don't have to dig my phone out of my pocket and unlock it. With Android 5, you can set the watch as a "trusted device" which will disable the lock screen on your phone if it's connected. That's a neat feature. I used to do that through Tasker. The way I see it, there are three schools of thought when it comes to smart watches: 1. Why bother? (most of you guys fit this) OR "I already have a nice watch" 2. People who want a smart watch to simply act primarily as an output for their phones (get notifications, get information quickly without having to dig their phone out of their pocket) with some input functionality 3. People who want a smart watch to be able to do everything a phone can independently. I'm in the second group. I like what my Moto360 does for me. There are only a few minor things I would like it to do that it doesn't. Technology hasn't really gotten to where a device satisfying #3 people is feasible, at least that will run for more than 3 hours per charge. Eventually I think it will. And someone mentioned bluetooth headsets going away? They're not gone. I have one (although I rarely use it) and see them around. They're not amazingly common, but they're still out there. Smart watches are relatively new, and are still somewhat niche products, but we'll see more and more of them. |

Gshock rangeman is as smart as I'll get.
The past week I had been thinking of getting one of those Suunto GPS watches with a HR monitor for my runs, cycling, and fitness routines, but in the end didn't want to spend the $$$. |

My watch is about as dumb as you can get. A Seiko with a dead battery that I haven't replaced yet. No Smart phone either though. |

No interest until they get one that's self-contained and I can make phone calls using it without a handset.

The Moto 360 looks spiffy.
In 1-2 years when battery life and functionality has improved I'll pick a smartwatch up. |

I keep looking for sales or coupons. |

Hell yes I have a smart watch.
It is a Samsung Gear 2. I think it is cool as hell. If you are trying to come up with some practical reason to own one, don't waste your time. You don't get it. Mine IS self contained and can make phone calls without the handset. It can be connected to your phone by Bluetooth and then forward calls from your cell phone number. It can be connected to your cell phone via the cellular network and forward calls from your cell phone number. Or it can just operate stand alone with it's own phone number. |

So you don't have to have your cell phone within Bluetooth range to make phone calls with the watch? Yes Not only can you use it without having it paired with your cell phone: you can call the watch on it's own number. I just bought it last Friday and that is what they told me. That is also what the instruction book says. However I never tried it until right now. I turned my cell phone off, and placed a call with the watch: so yes, it works as advertised. I may be full of shit, and there is something I am missing, but that is what I was told and it seems to do exactly that. Again, I have owned this thing for three days and am just starting to figure everything out. I guess in the interest of full disclosure I should add that I have to pay an additional $10/month for the watch to have it's own number. If you don't want to pay that, then it only works in conjunction with the cell phone. EDIT: Here is a LINK Sorry about the pop-ups. |
