That is bad ass ! Thanks for posting ! I wonder how that cost ?

Does it leak fuel on the runway when it's cool?
That's badass either way. |

Needs reliable FPV link and a LR radio.
Make some speed runs with that bitch. |

With these things the bigger then better. Makes them easier to see when flying. If you notice models over the years are getting much bigger. I love the scale turbine helicopters.

View Quote Probably 7K each for the turbines and fuel system. $1500 for radio gear, I'm guessing $1000 for landing gear and brakes. So about $16,500 just for that. Airframe is impossible to say, it could be as simple as fiberglass over foam or as complicated as vacuum bagged carbon fiber. Anywhere between 1K and 5K I am guessing? Doesn't matter. R/C World speed record still held by a glider. 505mph. Here, you guys complain arfcom makes you spend money. You haven't even begun to spend money yet. http://www.ultimate-jets.net/collections/mibo-kits/products/mibo-a-10-warthog-gen-5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDP-sNlTTKY |

Why has my phone been making me "download" YouTube videos and try to make me open them in a separate app? This started happening a couple days ago. Awesome video though!!

I must say of all the videos I've watched of guys flying R/C that guy seems to have pretty good hands. It could have been the platform itself but if someone were to watch that video with any reference it would be kinda hard to tell if it was real or memorex. At least until the landing sequence. He was pretty stable throughout most of the flight.

View Quote Undoubtedly the guy is an experienced pilot, but many r/c aircraft these days have gyro stabilization that makes them fly much more smooth. In tiny planes are doing it now. In addition, any plane this size is going to be much more smooth than a little one. |

At least it was run by itself, hate to see some idiot wreck it with a cheap helicopter.

Landing was a bit meh. No wonder they edited the bobble.
Back when I was in the Boy Scouts, we had an ASM who was a B29 WWII vet. Chuck Lindbergh was a civy advisor to the USAAF (actually down a Jap plane while testing a P38). This ASM was making a landing while Chuck was watching and as the ASM passed Chuck, Lindbergh held his nose and wafted away the stench, it was a bad landing with at least three bounces. Yeah, I am an old fart. |

I thought guns were an expensive hobby, but now I don't think so. I'd be afraid to fly something that expensive for fear that I'd crash it.

How large can these things get before the FAA becomes concerned?

Looks like it flew and controlled very well.
Landing look tricky, however, with the amount of time and $$$ involved, I would have 'eased' it down as well. Pretty hard to see what is going on from the operators view point. Would hate to slam skid that. |

That landing would be tough... that aircraft has to fly fast, and at slower landing speeds it probably gets pretty tough to control. Notice the high angle he had to land at. I suspect that thiing could stall and roll over easily.

I've read through this guy's adventure to build an rc sr71. It's an amazing read, imo. He had a guy build functional brakes for his modeled after the real thing, for instance.

I bet you I could still wad it up like a smashed beer can in only a few seconds....lol....what is the crash rate for these things? |
