Most that lift their trucks around here are just for looks, normally a shit ty spacer lift, etc.
I spend most of my time trying to talk myself out of doing fenders and long travel on the wifes fj. OP, just chalk it up to preference. A little bit of lift without fucking up the center of gravity can be useful on a fullsize. |

Most of it is additional height, but the more expensive suspension "systems" replace a lot of subpar OEM parts while maintaining a decent ride. Companies such as Carli or Icon would be the only way to go, with BDS at the bare minimum. RCC has his shit down as far as a proper "lifted" truck goes.

A full size can do things micro rigs cant. They can haul loads ofnfire wood out of the woods, and skid logs better. They do better at hill climbing until break over becomes an issue. Older fullsize trucks are also very light when compared to new vehicles. My 1991 F150 with an 8 foot box, 35s, D44HD front axle locked d70 rear with a bunch of money in suspension weighs only 4800lbs. It has 14inches of wheel travel, low gearing and enough ground clearance to be decently capible off road. Its a full ton or more lighter than a current model year pickup and only a few hundred pounds heavier than a 4 door Wrangler and is better at everything but hauling people.
Another interesting thing I have noticed is that when parked next to a modern F250 with a small lift and similar sized tires, the top of my cab is the same height as theirs, top of my bed rails are lower, and my rocker panels are a good 6inches higher up. And I am at probably around 8 inches taller than stock. My truck looks insanely tall, theirs looks normal. A lot of it has to do with sheet metal affecting looks of the truck also. |

clarification: if you have a vehicle only used for off-road, have fun. If you put anything over a 6" lift on a daily driver it's just silly. |

You really can't envision an off-road scenario between a turn row and rock crawling? I can't envision taking a full size truck through a rock garden. There's lots of off road uses for a modified full size truck. You can't put 4 men, a weeks worth of food, and a hunting camp in a jeep. You can't fit rods and a 4 days worth of ice in a sand rail. |

I see a ton of lifted farm trucks in my area; most of them are people who have flood-prone, muddy land. You may see a lot of them in places that are flat and muddy. Also, people do it for better approach and departure angles, especially if they have short beds, bobbed flatbeds, etc. The payload on most non-fullsize pickups in the US sucks because they're built to be driven empty. Buyers would piss and moan about the suspension on something like a Hilux. Unfortunately, the vast majority of brodozers fall under this category, though: Quoted:

I lifted my Suburban 3" so I could fit 33" tires.
I wanted 33" tires so I could easily get under the truck to change oil and work on it without using jack stands or ramps. It also looks 1000% better and the tires have a more aggressive tread for, ya know, mud and such. I also think the F250's and such with an 87" lift look incredibly stupid. There's no practical reason to do that to a vehicle... but there are a lot of things that people do that are impractical. |

My F-150 is 2WD. I know better than to put any lift on it.

If I HAD to design a trail rig from a MODERN full size truck I'd get a short cab short bed GM or RAM and lift it 3-4" and try not to overdo the tire width, but many of those now don't come with proper lockers or systems that approximate a locker, the AT overheats when crawling... |
