That is awesome. Thanks for taking the time to post the pics.
The SR71 is sooooooooo sexy |

Been there hundreds of times, mostly as a kid when it was on the base. I think that's one of the things that held my interest in guns, being able to see all those on display all the time. Great place to check out if you are ever In the area.

Is the rusted VZ-58 still there?
The displays in your picture look better then when I went there last. I remember there was a Mig-21 there too. |

I was there in 1979, and I remember seeing the Colt CAR-15s, they had on display, and the uppers and lowers were painted black. I was a big fan of the M16 series in my youth, and I was shocked at such a social faux pas.
Fucking ruffians. |

I live in the woods not even a mile behind that -53 given the angle of your shot.

I am not a weapons expert. My main forte is bolt guns. And there may have been a Mig also. I didnt get pics of everything. Bad weather was rolling into the Panhandle. |

Saw on the news, AL to MS got tore up. Here at the house, way north end of Santa Rosa, my plant stand fell over dumping my collection. |

I love that place
Used to drive by it every week when I was stationed at Eglin |

I'm busy finishing up the last of my assignments before finals here in 2 weeks, so no fun for me. Occasional arfcom breaks between assignments are about the only me time I get these days. |

They may have, but there are literally bombs and missiles stuck in every corner and spare space. Probably 100-200 scattered throughout the place. I dont know enough about bombs to recognize one. Id would have had to go around and look at every placard/sign etc. Sorry man. |

Ive been to Rucker once while I was in the Guard. But we just dropped off trucks and came back. My step dad was at Rucker in like 77 or so. Maybe I can talk him to going with us. But Ill defiantly put it on the list. |

I worked on that F-15 while I was stationed ther, '84 - '88.
"Gulf Spirit" was the Wing Commanders aircraft. |

Eglin, NAS Pensacola, Mobile and Ft Benning could just about cause the most diehard military nut to overdose. |

Ive been here since '96. And NAS is very cool, Ive just never done a thread on it. I like doing threads on far off ones. Not the normal ones, to me. I did the SEAL one in Ft. Pierce a few years ago. Posted a thread but cant find it. |

Why do they paint the canopies? (or replace them with fiberglass?)
I really wanted to post "That's not an AF museum, this is an AF museum" with pics of the amazing USAF museum in Dayton OH, but that small (only by comparison to Wright Patt) museum is very, very nice. |

Is the museum something you can see everything in an afternoon/day/etc? I am a former weapons troop (f-16 block 40/50 and f-15c) and would love to take my 11 year old there.

I drove by the museum every day on my way to work when I interned with /RW a couple of summers ago. The SR-71 is epic, and the displays inside are super cool.
Thanks for the pics! |
