Why was this gun not selected as our main rifle for troops?
Clearly ahead of its time...modular...adaptable...reliable...was it just not even in the running? I believe those can run on mags or belts right? |

I had a guy walk into our store wanting to sell one for his grandmother. He said his grandfather was involved in the making this gun and she has one in full auto. I told him we don't have the licencing to sell something like that but I would pay to see it.
I will have to get more info from him he was saying they fetch up to 100,000 ? |

Also, IIRC they had a lot of small parts that were easily lost if cleaned in the field, and the design wasnt really considered "soldier proof" |

Quoted: I sorta look at it this way: The AR7 was Eugene Stoner's "Moonlight Sonata". The AR-10 was "Fur Elise" The AR-15 was "Symphony 9" the Stoner 63 was fucking "O' Fortuna, Imperatrix Mundi" at 133 dB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdUgKwOPg00 View Quote Oh God...then what is Krzysztof Penderecki - Magnificat - III. A weapon that can be reconfigured by the user?
Aw hell no, they want uniformity. "Make sure all your pouches are in the right place soldier." |

View Quote Could you imagine what the big would be like today with the 50 years of development that have gone into the M16/M4 platform? I'm sure the small parts issue could be remedied. The 63 set up as an LMG with an ACOG would be some bad juju. |

If it is such a great system, why hasn't someone copied it?
Looks like someone would have modernized it and had it on the market by now unless it is still under patent protection. I doubt even that would have stopped certain players. Edit:damn tablet typing. |

I could've sworn Larry Vickers did a great video describing the 63 in detail and having it set up in all it's various iterations, but hell if I can find it now.
No matter what, it's a sweet fucking weapon "system." |

I believe they're still developing it in the LMG configuration. |

I owned one for several years. Trust me, you would have wasted your money. They WERE good weapons by and large....but it was the material science NOT the weapon engineering that made them great. They had about as much in common with a Stoner 63 as I do with Barrack Hoosein Obammy. |

The Stoner 63 is the Miley Cyrus of guns. Questionable utility, history, and aesthetics... but you bet your ass I'd take it home and then tell my friends all about it.

Quoted: Supposedly, Navy SEALs loved them in Vietnam. Everyone else didn't get the chance to use them. View Quote It was NOT a bad decision BUT.....the Stoner development should have continued in my opinion. A decade of testing, input and development could have created an outstanding military wide small arms system of great flexibility. The WORST part about the 63 LMG, in my opinion was that in the LMG mode, the gun ejected to the left....this caused a lot of issues that had to be remedied and I don't know exactly how successful that was. Could AUG like, switchable ejection been incorporated? Maybe at the Arms Room level? I don't know. |

Nice video with Jerry.
I had the Pleasure (it was) of shooting an Ultimax 100 several times. ROF was about 550 RPM, NO recoil or muzzle climb, stayed on target so nice. I hated having to give it back. |

OOPS. Forgot to ask this.
Was figuring the Stoner would have similar characteristics to the Ultimax. Has anyone shot both of them? I have never fired the Stoner platform. |
