I challenge you to name me a better all around fruit

Dried - It's awesome.

In deserts - Mango sticky rice > The rest.

Made into sauces, salsas, jams, jellies, relishes etc. - No other fruit can even get close.

By itself - Delicious. Plus it even looks cool.

It goes with sweet stuff, salty stuff, sour stuff, spicy stuff. The mango is the king of the fruits.

We used to have fresh fruit salad for breakfast every morning when I lived in Naples.

Babnanas, Mango, Grapefruit and Oranges. Sometimes we put coconut in it too. Only tree we didn't have was a babnana tree.

I'd put that stuff over corn flakes a lot.

Back when I lived in the tropics I used to eat 1-2 fresh mangoes a day, every day, for years, along with about a pound of rambutan (which is probably better than mangoes). We just had a box or two full of them from my wife's family farm in our place most of the time.

Apples and grapes just aren't the same now

Mango is just ok with me, not my favorite though.

For me Mango's have a weird after taste, oh well....

Apples are my favorite.

You can do everything you listed with apples and more, like cider, wine, beer, caramel apples, pies, baked apples, bacon wrapped candied apples, I could go on almost forever.

Apples for the win!!!

I love mangos. The ones we have here are nothing compared to the ones I had in asia. The best mango I ever ate was bought from a lady with a basket full of them at a rest stop alongside a highway in Malaysia.

I keep some dried mango in the truck as a way to give my blood sugar a bump. The trick is to not eat the entire bag while driving. Mango milkshakes are awesome, too.

mangoes shipped to grocery stores are nowhere near the quality of a good variety of backyard harvested mango (similar in that way to grocery store vs backyard tomatoes)

some of the poorer quality mangoes can indeed have a turpentine-like after-taste.  the sap of the mango contains urushiol, the same thing that causes the poison ivy rash.  the urushiol goes away upon ripening, though some can still be found on the skin.

also, poorer quality mangoes can have a stringy/fibrous texture, while better ones are fiber-free.

source:  native tropical mofo, w/ two mango trees in the backyard, laden w/ developing mangoes.

only good thing about hurricane season is the mango harvest, plucking them from the tree, or picking them up from the ground.

even the squirrels down here like themselves some mangoes.

never thought about it much, but yeah they're good.  For dried fruit I love the dried dates and plums (they don't call them prunes) from BJ's.  I'll snag some dried mangos next time
