That's awesome.
It's nice to get a reprieve from the quagmire of hilarious shit that is GD with heart warming stories like this. |

Awesome. I recall you joining and selecting an avatar. I'm very happy to hear how everything turned out.
Thanks for the update! |

We have already figured a budget that will allow us to work on the land and house, pay the utilities, start the nest egg, put some away for daughter's college, and still be able to help others. It was almost a year ago, when shootings were so bad and close to home, that I started escorting my daughter to her bus stop, with a .22 rifle that I had purchased for small game hunting. Three weeks later, I had my encounter with a police officer (a very hospitable encounter), and a few days after that, I was in the news. In that year, our lives have seen some drastic changes. Mostly great changes. Thanks to the great people here at AR15.com, I now have better equipment to protect my daughter, my neighbors and, if it ever comes down to it, my fellow countrymen. With an AR15 donated by Spikes Tactical, a .45 1911 Rock Island Armory donated by a couple of members here, Scopes, Magazines, Ammo, a light and other accessories, all donations from people here, I have been able to be better prepared. I was also given a free Home Defense class, which allowed me to get my CPL (also payed for by a member here). I don't know that I could ever thank everyone, who helped us, enough. I quit coming here to do updates, because I did not want to be a charity case. I can now explain why. In December, I started having problems with severe neck and back pain. So bad that, by January, I was not able to work anymore. I went to the Dr., and after a couple of months of extensive tests and exams, I was informed that I had extensive neck injuries. From C3 to C7, it was found that I have deterioration, cracks and separations, which will require a specialist to determine what needs to be done. I do not get to see the specialist until May 12th. I cannot get disability until I see the specialist. So we have been scraping through with my wife's income of less than $500.00 a month and the income tax return I got back. We realized that we can no longer make it here, as things have become more expensive, especially the water bill. Not only that, but the shootings have started up again, and we now have at least 3 more drug houses on our block. People have been saying we need to get out of the Heights, and I have come to the conclusion, they are right. But with bills piling up and no money to make such a move, I had no idea how that was going to happen. Then I received a message from a friend, who lived in the rural area where I lived my teenage years. An area I have been dreaming of getting back to live in. I calculated that in the 6 years we have lived here, we have spent over $34,000.00 in rent. My friend said she would sell us her 3 acres of land, with a handyman house on it, for $14,000.00. $350.00 a month, until it was payed off. No interest, and she would pay the land taxes, until we had it payed off. This was fantastic news, as we could afford that. All we have to do, is make it here until the end of May, which we can do. We will not have utilities for the month of May, but as long as the weather is warm, we have friends who are going to give us water, let us do laundry and shower, at their places, so we are good to go. Then, two days ago, the friend of mine with the land and house, calls me up... and the news she gave me had me crying like a baby... She said that she had been in deep prayer, and, because the land had been passed on to her, and she did not need the money, she decided to sell everything to us for $1.00. Now, this does not mean that I will no longer be active in our fight to uphold our constitutional rights. Quite the contrary. I am strongly getting the message out there, that it is not only our right, but also our obligation, to train and arm ourselves, to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and the innocent people around us, from enemies, both foreign and domestic. From the mugger on the street to those who would take our freedoms, whether that be a foreign invader, or a tyrannical government. Since we will have extra income soon, I plan to take a little money each month, to help a Law abiding citizen, get training, a CPL, and if needed and possible, a gun. I will be working to get awareness out there that not everyone who carries a firearm is a bad person. Well, sorry it is so long, but that is my update. I thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to read this. Lone Eagle (Michael LaMay) Good on your friend for doing that for you. Now if it were me I would be using that extra money to build a nest egg for your family. Your intentions are noble but you have to realize that you and your family MUST come first. You can help the masses after you make sure your own house is in order. We have already figured a budget that will allow us to work on the land and house, pay the utilities, start the nest egg, put some away for daughter's college, and still be able to help others. With all the help we have received, we would not feel right if we did not help. Simply giving your time until your family is straight and you have the surplus money to spare is quite significant. Do not underestimate the value you can provide to others in the form of skills, talent, knowledge, or even dedicated hard work. Not all need has to be fixed with cash. I like your spirit though. Keeping doing the right thing and the blessings will continue. |

Wow. God Bless her.

Hang in there brother, keep your family happy and in order first, the rest is tertiary. Thank you also for being a positive face for fellow gun owners. It is my pleasure. When I first found out I was considered somewhat of a celebrity, I questioned the reason behind it. I was told many times it was because I was an example of the right reason to open carry. Because of that, I have done my best to remain a good example, and to spread the message that we can open carry and not upset the 2A people, if we do it responsibly, at the right time, in the right place. I do not believe in doing it to get attention or to be confrontational. I have learned that we can cooperate with LEO's, and as long as we are not breaking any laws, will increase our chances of having a working relationship with them. Why intentionally rock the boat when we are already sailing in stormy waters? |

There are some amazing people out there. Thank you for sharing your story. I remember reading the updates and original thread.

Much respect LoneEagle. And while you had to start off with a .22 rifle said model is my favorite I bought at 18, and my favorite still at 36. You got good taste. Hoping for nothing but the best for you and yours.

I'm a cynical pessimist, and this thread has been uplifting even for me. Good job Lone Eagle, and good luck to you in the move. This country needs more people like you

I have good days, and bad days. Good days, I do not have to take any of my Norcos. Bad days, one or two. Real bad days, 3 and lots of bed rest. I find the real bad days are after good days where I do too much physical activity. View Quote I saw this with my father and his knees. He'd have a good day and then immediately get carried away and do too much leading to really bad days. Try and aim for a consistent amount of activity regardless of how your back feels and you may find it settles down a bit. |

I was just thinking about this story the other day.
Sorry to hear about your injuries but glad things are improving for your family! |
|
Best post I read all day. Good luck to you and your family OP. Glad to hear people still help each other put when the going gets rough.

Glad to hear this excellent news!
God Bless you and your family, and keep up the good work. From what I can tell, this couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. |

Great to hear!
Best of luck with you medical problems, sorry to hear it. If you are able to get internet, please don't go away from arfcom. You can simply decline, or politely ignore things you choose not to talk about. We need people like you. Also, if you will be out on the farm soon, start some starter seeds NOW. Small unlined paper cups, starter dirt if you can afford it and GO! I have some extra seeds that I can send if you toss me an address. NOT charity if you are concerned, I bought the package and used what I needed, the rest are simply sitting around. |
|
Congrats OP. Hopefully they get everything figured out with your neck/back.

|
I am very happy for you Mike, before you pay it forward, get things good and settled for you and your family, we all know you are good for it!
|
|
Well, that's a great story to start my weekend. You sound like a very deserving person.
