OP how are you getting to 36k out the door? Are you looking at a 14 or a 15? What trim level?

Blanco, bought mine new in 2013 because the used prices were insane.  I also intend to keep it until the wheels fall off and buying new and I know it was never and will never be abused and lack basic maintenance.

I expect to have it for at least 10-15 years.  The beauty of a truck is even when they are older and used they look even more like a truck and thats a good thing.

Any reason not to buy an F150?

That's the F150 I'd buy.  In fact, that's the F150 I want.  Although I'd be willing to go ecoboost too (probably better for my uses anyhow).

But for what you got, that's a good price.  Good job (and good rate).

Mine is a 2012 with a 6.5.  When I bought it, Ford was the only company making a CC 6.5 on a 150/1500.    I'm not sure when they started.

Bought a 2015 F-150 in Jan. I went with Ford over the competitors because I was fortunate to know the owner of the dealer, and was below invoice when all said and done. Cut into their holdback, so no fat left in the deal. Decided against paying cash due to the 1.9% financing.

A year old truck is about the worst thing to buy.  The selling price is almost the same as a new truck, and if you are not paying cash the interest rate will be higher than a new auto loan.

Either wait until they are at least 3-4 years old or buy new.

Love my F150.

Due your homework.  X-plan isn't always the best deal.  Some times you can negotiate a better deal.

This.
When I bought my last truck I settled on a price and told the dealer to call me when the windows were tinted and liner sprayed in and I'd pick it up. No need to buy it and then be without it, and the dealers go to the front of the line at those types of places.

This is based on a friend that has a new Ford truck, not my story so I don't know the details.

Spark plugs.

Ford told him $800 to do plugs and wires.
Firestone told him $600-$900 depending on how many plugs they break while removing them.

My understanding is the plugs have two sets of threads and it's common to break them on removal requiring special tools, Firestone broke 2 costing an extra 100.

That level of stupidity in its design makes it a shop job vs home, and almost a grand to fix.

Fuck that

That problem was with the Triton engines, and only 2004-2008 MY.

There are not two sets of threads.  I changed mine about two months ago.  Six of them broke, and it took about four hours.  It's not that hard to look this stuff up.

I bought a 14 instead of a 15 because it saved me about $6000.  Also, from I've been reading, repairing the all aluminum frame on the 2015 models is VERY expensive if you get any dents or what not.  Sure saving 700 lbs off your empty weight is nice, but it doesn't make that huge of a difference with the MPG.

It's not just about the MPG, it's going to be about resale value down the road, desirability, reliability, and longevity.  Of course if you plan to keep it till the day you scrap it then I guess it's pretty moot... although I'd imagine you'd get a bit more for a aluminum truck at scrap prices.

The aluminum repair costs aren't much different... the problem is that there aren't many shops equipped for it or with the experience of it, so the ones who do charges more.  This will level out quick.

Here is a little write-up on it.  The repair actually was less, but due to the labor rate for aluminum (there is this demand thing again) the cost is more.

Personally if my 03 2500 Silverado died, I would be looking at Toyota.....or dodge, before I bought a new chevy.... Or I would spend what I would pay on a new truck for an engine swap, and overhaul. And that would be cheaper than a new 3/4 ton truck these days

I drove a '13 or '14 ram hemi quad cab about a month ago.
all I'll say is it cured my curiosity to ever buy a hemi truck. will never happen.
it shifted weird, the seats were uncomfortable as hell, the interior felt cheap as hell.........everyone rants about the handling of the new rams.....i took that truck on some bendy roads fairly quickly and thought it sucked.
