I was down on what they call The Banks (bars by the stadiums near the river) Which is the nice part and you're fine in. I was 21, waiting on my permit. Didn't know what Ohios laws were with keeping a gun in the truck w/o a permit so I left my gun at home. Left the parking garage, got turned around and ended up in the wrong part of town. Had my windows down because it was a cool summer night. Stopped at a stop light and some Yute come up to me and before I realized it I was staring down a the barrel of a revolver of some kind. I usually kept my pistol wedged in between the driver seat and middle passenger seat (bench seat single cab pick up at the time) In hind sight, I should have just floored it and hauled ass out of there. but "not running a red light" was so ingrained in me it didn't even occur to me until after the fact. My first thought was to reach for my gun, but it wasn't there because I left it at home. So I grabbed my wallet tossed it out the window and then drove off as fast as I could. It still pisses me off to think about it. |

Since then, I've carried at all times. I have a designated truck pistol in the center console that doesn't leave unless I'm shooting it or cleaning it. I'm not even entirely certain I could have gotten a gun around and shot before he would have shot me in the situation. It was just the complete sense of feeling powerless that sucked. I didn't care about the wallet. 0 cash and I had all my cards cancelled before I crossed back into kentucky. But knowing that there was literally nothing I could do was torture for a few days after. |
