Some things just don't EVER change.

Several Years ago I was going through old Life Magazines.  They were a Weekly periodical at the time and not something that only did Specials.

This particular issue was in the 1950's featured teens and their cars, showing the stunts they did with the inevitable crashed vehicles.

One particular stunt had 4 teens in a car at once.  Somebody would then yell ROTATE!  The driver would move to their right, the front right passenger would move to the right rear passenger spot and the left rear passenger would take over driving.  All this would happen while the car was in motion.  And as I recall the car in the pictures was NOT a convertible.

While there were other stunts, this was the one I remember the most.

A friend of mine lost his brother that way when Teen Wolf was a new release movie. Fell off the car and the driver ran him over.

Glad they were able to throw some Police blame in there for good measure.

OBVIOUSLY the Police Officer's fault.

Conk your noggin hard and it can scramble things up pretty good without doing any visible damage.

It is not really uncommon for someone who hits their head to get up and seem fine, but then fall over dead several hours later.

Head injuries are no joke.

Bummer but not anything new.

There were a couple deaths due to car surfing back when I was in high school.

I still did it, was fun.

Darwinism.

When I surfed my friends hoods, we did it with preparation and common sense. We discussed the perils of slamming the brakes or flooring it suddenly and what inertia and gravity do. We never had an issue.

$100 says the dipshit driver thought it would be really funny to SLAM on the brakes and see what happened.

It was easy in an old car with bench seats. Such as a 1974 Gran Torino with black vinyl seats so you could slide sideways. As for car surfing, we did it on the roof. Station wagons were great for that.

One of my nieces boyfriend died stupidly the same way in a 7/11 parking lot.  How the hell do you get a car going fast enough in a 7/11 parking lot to throw somebody off so hard that it kills them?

Darwin must have really wanted that boy.

I hate to admit it, but in high school my friends and I did our share of car surfing at night on gravel roads.  We took turns up top, strapping on a coon light and a .22 or shotgun and popped wildlife we saw along the road.  Drunk.  Thirty years later, I still shake my head.  And that wasn't even the dumbest shit we did.
