6.5mm aficionados, this is your thread. 6.5 Grendel and 6.5-284 can come too.
If you're a fan of a 6.5mm cartridge, feel free to share favorite loads, favorite setups, range pics, hunting pics, or whatever's clever. If you don't currently own a 6.5mm rifle, or if you aren't familiar with any of these cartridges, and you're reading this, I'm sorry. This thread might cost you. Personally, while I see certain advantages favoring the more modern .260 Rem and 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges, I went with the Swede. Why? I like old military rifles, and when I learned about the CG-63, I had to have one. It's a 1905 Carl Gustafs m/96 Swedish Mauser that was converted into a FSR target rifle by Carl Gustafs in 1968. It's a great range rifle, and I'm sure I'm going to learn a lot shooting it and loading for it. More on that: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1691467_.html I want to buy a more modern rifle to compliment it, but I haven't decided what just yet. Options are limited, but this point, I'm leaning towards custom building a Savage or maybe splurging for a Tikka T3 Sporter. I could go with a Creedmoor for more rifle options, but then I'd need to buy more dies and stock another type of brass. I'll figure out what I want to do eventually. What are your favorite 6.5s? |

We had a Swedish family show up to Boomershoot back several years ago, and they had one of those with a scope mounted to it.
Their teenage girl was ringing the flagger IPSC at 700yds like it was easy, with no real long range shooting experience before the course. She was shooting old corroded Swedish Army ammunition as well. |

I like 7mm Rem Mag and 6mm Rem. At least your barrels will still be good after 900 or so rounds! Depending your expectations on accuracy, yes. I think I'll get better than twice that out of a barrel. But my 7mm Rem Mags are long field barrels on hunting guns. I like long tubes, but not the weight. Between my shooting, and the guns ability, I could shoot my heart out and still not see accuracy fall off. The 6mm is a really nice gun. Shoots well. Fun cartridge. I wish there were as many chamberings in 6mm Rem as there were .243. |

6.5 x 284 here....Mine is in a Savage Long Range Hunter. I have a Vortex 5-25x50 mounted on it. Soon as I get a load worked up for it, it will be my coues whitetail rifle. I am hoping for a 800 yard rifle for shooting across canyons. I will be shooting 140 grain Bergers pushed by either Retumbo, Magpro, or some other slow burning powder. My load development has been on the back burner with a few other projects I have going on.

I had a Remington 700 Classic in 6.5 Swede, very accurate, mild recoil, wasn't to hard to load for, shot a 120gr Sierra I believe it was with RL19.

When I was shooting LR at Perry or Quantico, we had a fighter pilot on our team that used one. He shot well with it (understatement). We dubbed it the Fagnum because we were still shooting Crane built 300WMs, and after 22+ prone, well, my widdle shoulder and the web of my left hand kind of... hurt... I don't recall Joe complaining about that with his 6.5... |
