Im actually trying to retire OUT of Florida. We dont have state tax or personal property taxes, just house property tax and those are pretty high along with the insurance, partly why I want to look else where. Plus not much nice country property around here.

Charlotte NC. Great city, and great hospitals from what Ive heard from a few MD friends down there. I also like Scottsdale AZ, But no idea about the hospitals.

If you're not married, I'd recommend joining the traveling Nurse program.  My sister is in it, and gets to travel to different cities, live there for a few months, and then move on to the next.  Once you find the place you want to set roots, stop there.

that's an option that I've seriously considered, but I don't think that I would enjoy constantly moving around. also, as a new grad, I need experience before I can join most travel programs.

Charlotte is great if you like high taxes, creeping socialism, plenty of dindus, and Little Mexico.

Lived there for 12 years and very happy to get out.

Alaska has a big demand for RN's.  Lots of opportunity, it does have interesting characters and weather though.

Baylor Dallas (TX) needs trauma nurses stat.

There's a big new Baylor-Scott & White hospital in Waxahachie, 25 miles south of Dallas.
Waxahachie is about as close to Dallas as you can get while still living in the country ( you'll still see plenty of cotton and cattle around here).

Not Oregon because I intend on going back and living out in the boonies!

Recently moved from OR to MS. One hell of a move. Did get to go through Moab but didnt get to stop and wheel this time.

My buddy's wife is doing her internship right now in Salem, OR. She had the opportunity to go to Alaska because the demand is so high. Pay there is said to be very good.

Live in Indiana, get LTCH(License to carry handgun) very easily, commute to any number of hospitals in the Chicago area?

My GF's mom used to work for Rush University Medical Center

Yankees not welcome down here. There's already too many concentrated down in Broward County  to make the whole state look bad!

Not a nurse but I've run into several traveling nurses and it's a good deal.

You go somewhere and stay for a few weeks/months then move on.  They put you up in pretty good places and if you work with d'bags, no problem, you'll be out of there in a month. We were renting a condo in Destin, FL and there was a traveling nurse there for 6 weeks.

Once you do that for awhile, you get a feel for where you want to work.

But, stay where you are and get some experience.

I would not get your first job as a travel nurse.  No one is going to orient you and they will expect you to have experience.  I would suggest you find a hospital that will give you a long orientation as a new grad.  I would suggest you spend 6 months to a year in med-surg.   That being said, I went straight into psych after graduation because of my previous background in psych.  If you do not want to go to med-surg, I would recommend you find a small to moderate size ED.  Now once you have that experience under your belt then I would recommend Texas for cost of living-vs-pay.  Also Texas is nice for your gun rights.

I believe AZ has state laws mandating Nurse to Patient ratios.

Blue states tend to be nice because of the unions, but they suck ass on your gun rights.

Great advice, I appreciate it.  So far it's looking like I can get a new grad position in a decently large ED here in Worcester. I would probably stay for a year just for experience before trying to move regardless.

I don't like unions at all. The pay may be better, but the hospitals controlled by nursing unions are circling the drain quickly up here.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised hearing how many people say "we're full."  Yankees are going to move south regardless, wouldn't you all rather have like-minded freedom-loving yankee move down with you rather than the liberal nut jobs taking over your cities?

Was thinking that, but also no real good hospitals aside from maybe dartmouth-hitchcock, and I don't want to commute into boston or worcester from there

I don't understand why people say this either.  Much rather have any pro-gunner regardless.

Another vote for Portland, OR. You'll be warmly welcomed & if you've  watched Portlandia they're not far off. I was born here but moved away in ‘81 and came back in Dec. ‘12. I lived in CT for 19 years & had my fill of nasty winters & humid summers. Their gun laws suck & the politicians are crooked.

Drive an hour West & you'll be at the Coast. An hour East & you'll be snow skiing.  The University of Oregon Health Sciences Center (hospital) is top notch. We have one of the best mass transit systems in the country & light rail is expanding all the time. Groceries are a LOT cheaper here too.  Portland has the highest number of bicycles per capita than any other city in the US.  We have mild summers & air conditioners are only used a few days per year.

You're on this site so you probably like guns. We're an open carry state & a CHL is easy to get. I wear a gun daily & have never had a problem. You can legally carry open or concealed into the State Capitol building and the airport if you have a CHL. Democrats run the show but we have a strong gun culture - sort of an oxymoron but it works. No magazine capacity limits but there are always anti-gunners in the Capitol trying to push their agenda.  I have an Oregon, Utah & Arizona carry permit so I'm legal in about 35 states.

Just like any other city there are areas you don't want to live in. Growing up here there were sections that were real bad but now they're hip.
No sales tax. No yearly personal property tax on cars, boats, etc but the state income tax is 8 - 11% depending on income. Auto registration is pretty cheap. I just paid $86 for two years & $20 for the emission test. The test centers are run by the State and in some areas you're exempt. You'll have to learn how to drive a lot slower.

I've traveled extensively & this is a pretty good place. The unemployment rate is 5.6% & dropping & no I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce. It's just a good place to live.
