Buy it. I have S&W and Ruger wheel guns and they are both great. My 4" GP100 is my favorite.

The GP100 is a sweet gun with a buttery smooth trigger. It weights a lot though so it might not be the best for concealed carry.

Most of them are 50ish year old S&W. I have fired tens of thousands of rounds through them. The LAST one I would get rid of is my GP-100. (4" Stainless) When someone asks me what .357 revolver to get, I tell them the GP-100. |

They're wonderfully overbuilt and great looking guns. I don't know how you can like revolvers and not own one.

I have 2 4" SS revolvers: a GP100 and a Model 66. The S&W sees more range time. It isn't that the GP100 is a bad gun, but the Smith is much nicer. I'm actually trying to work out a local trade for a shotgun with the GP100. I'm just not a fan.
P+R S&W>Ruger>non-P&R S&W This might change if you step up to .44mag or more, but for a .38/.357, I'll take a Model 66. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I used to own a 4" Ruger Security Six that I liked to shoot, till it got stolen. Then I had a 4" Model 66 and didn't like shooting it so I got rid of it. Recently I bought a GP100 WC and love it.

I like it better than the Smiths, old, new, or otherwise. The only thing I did with mine is I replaced the factory main spring and trigger return springs with Wolfe springs of the same weight as factory. Still had the factory trigger pull weight, but the pull was consistent and would not "stack up" as you came closer to breaking the sear. Makes it easy to shoot it accurately. The only disadvantage is that you have meathook fingers like I do, the trigger can pinch your index finger a bit. Try one in dry fire before you buy. For my part, I just put up with the pinch because it's worth it. |

I wouldn't buy one at the prices I last remember, but if the cost has returned to reasonable levels, they're one of the best guns available. And, if you run out of bullets, you can beat the guy to death with it.

I have a 4" GP100 in the safe, but I enjoy shooting my 2.75" and 6" Speed Sixes a bit more. Not sure why since they are pretty similar pistols, but the Speed Six just feels better in my hand and have smoother triggers. Of course the latter is probably due to the fact they get shot a lot more.

I want one still, last time I was looking for a 357 gun show prices on the GP100's were stupid high, I paid less for a S&W 28-2 at that same gun show and I think I overpaid at $650 for that.
If I bought one today it would be a 3" Wiley Clapp or a Match Champion. |

Bought the 6" model back in 85 and have been running it ever since.
Installed a pachmayr combat grip and have run thousands of rounds thru it, mostly combat shooting. Gun is a "Tank" |

I got a 2001-manufacture blued 4" for right around $400.
It has the original wood insert grips, which I think look a hell of a lot better than the full Hogues. It's an alright gun; I own it mostly because everyone should have a .357Mag, and I like the ability to play with the reloading press and shoot all kinds of different bullets through it. Mostly, the only time I use it is with new shooters, or to take my non-owning-but-still-like-to-shoot friends out and let them have a little taste of horsepower. The last time it was shot, my wife took some of her girlfriends out. Her one friend asks me, "What's the biggest handgun you have?" I only have 9mm (because it's the best) semi autos, so I pulled out the GP100, and she's like, "OOOOH! Can we shoot that?!" I said sure, and gave them 2 boxes of 38 and a box of 357. I told them there's a significant difference. They get back, and they hadn't even touched the box of 357s. And they're all high-fiving each other on how they could easily handle "the big gun." 
I wasn't about to ruin their fun by telling them. ETA: Oh right, about the gun... It's okay. It's well-made, reliable, accurate enough, and it certainly is beefy. I still want a 6" 686, because everyone needs a cannon, but the 4" GP100 is probably the best "all purpose 357" out there. The "sport/utility handgun" if you will. There's not a whole lot it can't do, even if it doesn't do any one thing the best. At the same time, you'll like it enough to have fun with it, but it should never be your favorite handgun. You won't be worried about scratching it, and there's something to be said for guns that are made to be used and used hard. |

My GP100 is the first gun I've ever owned or shot. I bought it used from a guy at work when I turned 21. I'll never get rid of it.
I had some custom inserts made for it, but other than that it's completely stock. It still locks up like the brand new GP100s I've handled.

From a guy on eBay that makes custom wood grips: http://www.ebay.com/usr/luvinglifeat60 I sent him some pictures of what I wanted done and he sent me back a picture how the final inserts would look. I gave him the go ahead and received them in under a week. He usually has pre-made grips and inserts, but he'll take custom work as well. |

Im really liking my 3" fixed sight gp100 it's mainly going to be a camping/hiking woods gun but it carries so nice in a simply rugged holster it may get the occasional ccw carry as well

A beater of a gun, to be sure. Got one b/c I knew I wanted to do ALOT of shooting of fire-breathing manglems, and this could take it. I have not been disappointed. Only mod I did was to round and polish the face of the trigger to smoooooooth out the DA pull.

I had a 4 inch stainless that I sold for a 4 inch Model 28-2. I was happier with the Highway Patrolman in every way, but I would still like to have the GP-100 back also.
I would rather have a 5.5 inch Redhawk .357, though. |

Do it OP. You can pick up a used WIley Clapp 3" for around $500 these days and they are incredibly nice guns. Paid $819 for this guy back when they first came out.
Runs everything I've bothered to put through it, including several boxes of 200gr HCGC +P bear loads. Ruger's new method of making hammer assemblies has really paid off, as their triggers are damned good out of the box. I'd compare this one to a worn in S&W. Only thing I'm considering doing to it is getting a set of Meprolight night sights milled to fit the revolver. Beyond that, it is bone stock and a great shooter. Hell, I even bought the mini me version of it. (SP101 WC) as my carry gun. Going to match this up with a SBR 77/357 bolt action once I get the funds. (10.5" barrel with Liberty Mystic X suppressor)

6" GP100 or a 6" S&W 357 is a GREAT range toy.
They're wonderful revolvers for teaching first time shooters on when you load them with 38spl. |
