I have a student whose father is a native white from Rhodesia. She was telling me about this. "My dad's African. He was born in Rhodesia," she said.
When I asked if he had been a SELO scount, her eyes got big. |

Its been downhill since the whites no longer run Rhodesia Zimbabwe.

It's refreshing to see photos of men wearing manly shorts,
instead of the ghey, ghetto, baggy over-the-knee abortions sold today. I hate having shorts with the legs covering my knees, and the pockets out of reach. |

The Rhodesian Army - where you are man enough to wear shorts to war.
Cool pix! |

Seems like that would help to make sure you plane avoid bad planets/animals rather than assume pants will save you. Weight = lighter, less hot. Need to wade through water? Better option is to wear shorts. Seems weird but it makes sense. |

One of the best things about the Rhodie's were that they had their shit together. Their missions were well planned and thought out. Organizational structures and SOP were top notch. Their ingenuity on the battle field is seen in equipment even used today.

Every time I see photos of Rhodesia, the words "preview of coming attractions" spring to mind.

Thanks for posting these (and thanks for all of your posts - always facinating and well presented info). I've been doing a ton of reading about the Rhodesian conflict and there are literally thousands of lessons learned that are applicable to coin operations today .

I was coming here to expect copious amounts of FAL porn and you did not disappoint OP.

Tag for home and I'll add some pics
Always in for a Rhodesian thread |

FALs are the sexy. Not as sexy as those booty shorts. Is it bad that I want a pair? I will look for them in Liberty, but you have to shoot a FAL |

I believe the Rhodesian Army eventually banned shorts except for Sealous Scouts. My experience is mostly desert and dry heat, so perhaps humid is a different matter, but shorts don't make you cooler when it is hot out. |

OK...last pic, guy with mortar, two rifles leaning up against wall in back.
What are those rifles? |

All these years later and still no good reproduction Rhodesian brush pattern camo available.

There's just something not quite right about a guy with both a FAL and green nuthugger shorts.

You guys think there is much advantage of 7.62x51 caliber weapon over 5.56x45mm in that environment?
I understand that 7.62 hits harder and further than 5.56 but it's a lot more heavier and maybe overkill for the purpose. They could carry a lot more 5.56 ammo than 7.62. |

I can't think of a better beater rifle for a farm or whatever than an FAL.

On a related note, anyone know how many MAG-58s are on the registry?

Most 7.62 ball doesn't fragment. |

Btw the Bell 605's(Hueys came from Israel) They were in such a state when the Rhodesians got them it took quite a while to get them up and running.
