I've been wanting to square up my collection for a while now and one of the things high on my list is a quality MP5 clone. The POF 5 looks like a logical choice as I can't really afford a HK. I'm looking at maybe selling my Rhodesian.....So the question is hang on to the Rhodie or go for the MP5 clone?

You can shoot someone at 25 yards with a FAL, but you can't shoot someone at 300 yards with an MP-5.

This.

Don't do it.

ETA: well, you might actually be able to make the 300m shot with an MP5, but the FAL makes it much easier.

I really, really want a Rhodie, but I can't afford one right now.

You can sell me yours in the summer when I'll have more cash

Square up your collection?  If you just want to have some sort of semi auto subgun, sure go for it.

If you're thinking it will fulfill a purpose other than fun that a rifle or pistol couldn't do better (especially without the happy switch), you're wrong.

I love the bastard little semi auto subgun clones, but they are mostly a "for fun" type of gun.  Not sure I'd get rid of a useful rifle for one.

For when you need that combination "shoot people in the face/flashbang them" option.

Function-wise I'd recommend a 9mm AR over a MP5 clone any day of the week. I had a friend who has a SBR MP5 clone and has had nothing but problems with it. Whenever we shoot together and I have my 9mm AR SBR he shakes his head and says "I should have went that route."

Oh and I have an extra 9mm SBR for sale now on EE

How many rhodies do you have, saiga?

You'll need an early R1, then a scrubbed R1, then a G1 Rhodie, then don't forget the za marked one, then the Type III Rhodie, and I'm sure I've missed a few. Oh yeah, Rhodie FALO too.

If you have dupes, go ahead and sell one. Better yet...save up and keep the Rhodie, and then buy the peashooter. I can guarantee you'll regret selling the Rhodie...might take a while, but you will.

What is the ballpark price on a Rodie FALthese days?

I was looking at DSA SA58 Para's yesterday and I was surprised to see them around $1800.

The whole "AR's getting dirt cheap" thing had me thinking FAL's haven't gone up much...
But they have.

And to me a Rhodesian is more desireable than a new made one with no history.

Are you selling it for a six pack of MP5 clones?  I wouldn't trade a Rhodie FAL for a real MP5! Semi-auto, I mean.

Also as much as I'd like an MP5 clone, I can't fathom paying the price that POF is asking for those....Seriously.. $1500.00 for those seems way over priced.

The answer to your .308 and 9mm "needs" are best served by the AR platform... modularity and Geisselle triggers FTMFW!!!

I would.  An MP5 is very high on my list.  I never once desired a FAL.

A 9MM AR is going to be a better gun than an MP5, and way cheaper. I would keep the FAL, 9MM ARs aren't going anywhere.

Please Note :  1  This item has a basic black painted finish by the Pakistan Ordnance Factory  ( POF) . The finish may easily show usage , wear or scuffs  . It is suggested to only clean the exterior of the gun with oil & a rag use of solvents may cause damage. The pistols are new but may show signs of shipping & handling . Finish is a not covered by warranty .
2.   Cocking Tube may not be perfectly centered on front Triple Tree and will not impede function of gun or ability to acquire front sight . Function of gun is covered by warranty cosmetics are not  .

Sounds like a deal to me

A nice one?(Matching numbers and over 60% of it's paint.....Easily over a grand. There is a kit all matching minus the barrel with an R1 receiver for 1100.00 right now.

I remember shooting your Rhodie at James' FAL shoot at Mickey's a few Novembers ago.  It was a nice gun.  It shot well and looked great.

A lot of folks will tell you not to sell it, but if it doesn't fit your shooting style/collection and the MP5 does, then I say sell away.  No reason to clutter the safe with guns that sit in the back rack and never see daylight, unless you're a collector.

As a poster above me mentioned, any reason you're not considering a 9MM AR instead of the MP5?  If you just want to shoot 9mm, then go the AR route.  If you want an MP5 clone, specifically, then I understand.
