Very nice! Good price on it too it appears. Nice to see your family spending some time together.

Thanks for the rundown on this, I've had my eye on them for a while now.

The Model B's a great pistol. I picked one up from AIM a few years ago, one from the WWII Bulgarian contract. It's a good shooter.

What was the bullet weight(s) that you ran through it?
Any 147gr.? Hollow points an issue with feeding/eject? Thanks |

I almost bought one a couple of years ago when AIM had them. Mags were too expensive, so I didn't buy. Nice review.

I tried a few of my handloads with a JHP, but it didn't like that profile. Not uncommon for a milsurp pistol. |

Was this a 9mm or 9mm Largo?
My father has a Modelo Super in 9mm Largo and there is apparently a warning in the old manuals not to shoot 9mm Luger in it. |

Fine post as usual Painless. Thank you.
A friend of mine bought one of these back in the mid 70's. I remember it being a good shooter. In those days, you either bought Colt or Browning semi autos. Star was also an option. Amazing how many choices we have now. |

I'd like to get one of those, but believe they are not "safety" tested for here

Model A's are 9mm Largo. The Supers can be a little confusing because they aren't always marked with the model letter, but they are marked with the caliber on the slide (9mm P vs. 9mm). |

However, the pistol looks good up close and it is heavy and well built. I see no problem shooting standard 9mm through this piece. |

Did someone say "Star Model B grips"?
Tulksi custom grips for Spanish Star pistols (These are excellent, and VERY affordable.) |

Nice write-up as always O_P but one question for you. In the fifth picture from the top if you look at the ejection port it looks like there is a line or crack in the top of the slide?

Make sure you don't feed that thing modern overpressure ammo. View Quote I do not agree with that at all. In fact, I'd feel safe feeding it a steady diet of +p and +p+ 9mm ammo. Even 9mm Major. Look, the ONLY difference between OP's 9mm and the 9mm Largo version is a chamber-reamer (and possibly a magazine). 9mm Largo is hot - some of the sub-machine gun 9mm Largo is really REALLY hot - like 9x23mm Winchester hot. The gun can take it just fine. Just take another look at that barrel and how thick it is. As for the action: it is essentially a hybrid 1911 action - one of the strongest actions of any locked-breach semi-automatic handguns (if you want an example of a WEAK action, just look at the military M9 aka Beretta 92; +p+ will break that thing in no time). About the ONLY strength feature it might lack is chamber-support - but the 9mm case is so thick that it really does not need much more support than there is already (go section a 9x23mm Winchester case and compare it to a sectioned 9x19mm case and you will see the light). That gun is built like a tank. An over-built tank. Use any 9mm ammo with confidence. And thanks for another great report OP. |

As a matter of fact it is. It is a Bulova Accutron Spaceview, which runs on a tuning fork. My parents gave it to me for graduation from High School in 1967. Still runs great and I wear it every day. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=3678 View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I've been keeping an eye out for one. Met a guy once who said he got his for $25 at a second hand store. Knew what he had, and wouldn't sell it to me. |

I had a Star Model B, not "Super", had the external extractor and right side disconnector, and to replace the firing pin, you had to remove the rear sight.
All before I went 1911, but I don't think a grip safety is necessary. |

I own several flavors of Model Bs in both 9mm P and Largo and every one of them is a fine shooter. Best kept secret in the mil-surp world. The last one I bought (9mm P BKS) is a fine weapon....It's Commander sized with a aluminum frame. Excellent carry pistol. Very few were imported. http://oi58.tinypic.com/rck2dy.jpg Interarms sold 9mm Largo Model Bs with a extra 9mm P barrel back in the late 80s or so. http://oi62.tinypic.com/hwcmd2.jpg It does not hurt to have spare parts either. It's a great little gun, exceptionally nicely pointing and very well balanced. It's too bad that Star went away before concealed carry changed the pistol market in the US,I think they had a lot of guns that would have sold well and kept the company alive. I have a Firestar 9mm as well and am on the casual lookout for one of the plastic Ultrastars, just to have it |

It's a joy to carry. It got very high marks from Bill Jordan. His (as is yours) was a Starlite. Note the slightly different profile at the bottom of the front of the grip.
