I don't think the Chicoms or Russians are gonna divulge this kinda of "game changa" capability by blowing up some antique weather bird....

As least Kerbin has a space program... Never seen a Kerbal hitching a ride with the Russians to get to their own space station.

Before people start prattling about the Chinese, Boeing signed a contract with the DOD recently to help improve the range of the Navy's new laser weapon system. Naturally, you would want to do some target practice, so rather than put up a target, just use an old defunct satellite and burn it. They probably hit it, but did not anticipate how rapidly it would break apart and inadvertently created a debris field. I mean, the heat spike was first reported by a civilian group, but the USAF confirmed. Which means they were actively looking at and monitoring the temperature of a mostly useless satellite at the exact time it happened. Details, people.
