My uncle had one like that, even the same color, back in the 60's.  I thought it was cool to ride in, probably because my parents always had land yachts, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Cadillacs.  Looking back, it was a death trap if you got in an accident.  When I was old enough to drive at one point I had a 1960 Rambler that I killed driving on a flooded street.  My dad bought stock in American motors when they were number 2 in sales behind Chevy.  He never bought stock again.

I love old car stories.
As small as they are, a 4 cylinder would be fine. A Ford 2.3 is a good choice. They're easy to find and upgrade.

They are actually not terribly rare as for some reason they really don't rust , really nice ones bring maybe 5-6k    In the condition this one is in its probably a 3k car at best

Would not mind putting a V6 and automatic of some sort in it.

I doubt I'll ever do it but would be thinking a ecotech they make all kinds of rwd adaptors for um

20 years ago the last time my father and I got it running

It was ridiculously hard and expensive plus this car is an early 58

58 was the  the year they went from "early" to "late" and this car has a mix of early and late parts

Now with eBay I got everything in a week and spent about $200 for a master cly , clutch slave cly, fuel pump , cap/rotor/wires

Needed a gas tank too but those were expensive and hard to find so we patched the shit out of it and coated it inside and out with sealent

I'll let ya know how that lasts

Stick to a mini plant. KAC used to make some twin cam cross flow heads for the BMC A blocks.

In high school, I helped a friend put a 283/4 speed in a 57 MGA. Seemed like such a good idea, later on, my ad and I put a Metro body on a chopped down 65 Cadillac chassis. Uncontrollable, but fun. Wish I had pix.

Well if you can get the original dimensions, I'm sure you can search out and adapt a suitable replacement.

Or bolt a fuel cell in the back seat.
