I have never shot a fish before pulling it in the boat but as a little ridgerunner child I shot a good many large mouth bass with a 22 when they were near the top.

I understand it ,with a big dangerous fish, especially in a boat. But being a fisherman, I don't understand when they catch a little salmon or something from shore, and kill it right away, by beating it??? I don't get it? I mean I understand if you keep it alive longer= fresher, or IF you bleed it out right away this I get. But quick beat the life out of it? WTF just for TV????? Alaskan salmon will get right back in the water and keep swimming. Im already back fishing. I don't want to be chasing the ones I have already caught that are flopping their way back to the water. When I was 3 I was given a stick and my dad told me it was my job to make sure the salmon stayed with us. It was fun. Did you tell "stop resisting! Stop resisting?" And did you grow up and become a cop? |

Put two rounds of 45 ball in to a 90lb halibut we were bringing aboard a 16 foot john boat. Fucker still came back to life 20 minutes layer. Axe handle put an end to that.

Some fish such as sharks are shot because they can really damage a boat or person. I have never heard of a halibut being shot... View Quote One of our members caught a huge one a few years ago. His guide saw it, yelled to the mate"Get my pistol!". Shot it with a .38 before the fisherman could say whether he wanted to keep or release it. Back at the dock people called the guy(our member) a dick for not releasing a fish that big, while the guide just sat around quietly. |

The last thing you want on your boat is a green halibut. They can trash all your gear in short order, especially a big halibut. Cobia are just as bad, if you can't shoot them at least brain them with a ball bat or something similar. I have a video someplace I shot of a boat captain shooting my buddy's 260 pound halibut, 2 shots from her .38 special before they brought it onboard then two deckhands beating the hell out of it until it stopped moving.
