RUSKIN, FL (WFLA) - Surveillance video has been released of a boat crashing into a popular Ruskin beach-side restaurant, narrowly missing several customers.
The 39-foot-long Sea Vee boat crashed into the Sunset Grill, in Little Harbor, the evening of Monday, February 23. A crane removed the boat from the scene of the crash last Wednesday.
Workers boarded up the damage and were able to re-open the restaurant and tiki bar on Saturday. And they did so with a sense of humor, posting specials like "ship wreck stew" and "ship wreck sangria." Also on a sign of rules, including "no boats" allowed in the restaurant.
The restaurant took to Facebook, announcing the re-opening and thanking everyone for their continued support.
Seven people were onboard when the boat barreled onto the beach and plunged into the restaurant. Two people suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, no one in the restaurant was injured.
FWC investigators say alcohol was not a factor, but they are trying to determine how fast the boat was going. They say intense fog was certainly a factor in the crash.
The boat's captain is charged with reckless operation.
