Beer sounds too boring for the Superbowl. I visited Scotland and didn't try Scotch when I was there . So tell me, what should I buy? I don't want to spend an asinine amount of money, maybe 30ish at the most. Go!

Johnnie Black until you're ready to take off the training wheels.
Don't jump directly into the deep end (I'm talking about Laphroaig ). |

Famous Grouse is a good priced one (blended) that is surprisingly good

1. Never drink a blended scotch.
2. Never drink a scotch that isn't old enough to drive, enlist in the service, vote, and/or drink itself. |
|
All you need to know is to take any bottle of scotch, put it in the coals of a nice fire on a cold night. Drink it straight from the bottle. You`ll never buy scotch again. Circa 1980.

Sipping Ardbeg right now, but I prefer Laphroig Quarter Cask.
OP, you need to decide wether or not you like peated scotch (smokey) or not. Generally people either love or hate it. I CRAVE the smokey taste. IMHO, these are the two big categories in scotch. |

Just poured a glass over ice. I'm liking it so far YOU ARE ALREADY FUCKING SHIT UP!!! I figured baby steps Don't use ice. A splash of filtered water served over frozen stone cubes if you must have it cold. Scotch is best served at room temp. Ice is strictly forbidden. |

I'm in the minority here on this, but possibly more honest and less interested in the status quo than most. Most all of it tastes like how paint thinner or rubbing alcohol smells, to me. I suppose once you consume a fair amount, the taste becomes less disagreeable. However, I've tried all the popular and expensive ones, and they all taste nasty to me. IMO, if you want some nice tasting spirits that you can sip over ice, that taste nice from the very first sip, consider: Wild Turkey American Honey (technically a liqueur) Evan William Honey Reserve (technically a liqueur) Jim Beam Honey or Jim Beam Maple (technically a liqueur) Bird Dog Peach Flavored Whiskey (80 proof) Bird Dog Blackberry Flavored Whiskey (80 proof) Happy Drinking |

That's the only explanation that I can come up with for this. For the record, real men drink single malt scotch or bourbon, with an occasional taste of Tennessee whiskey or shine. All other spirits exist to help men get laid. |

I take a lot of shit for my honest opinions offered on spirits, but I sure enjoy what I drink. Sipping Bird Dog Blackberry on ice now. |

Need moar options for Scotch. I'm hooked. Been sipping it slowly since halftime and it's way more enjoyable than getting plastered on shitty beer/booze

Balvenie Doublewood is great value for the money. Lagavulin 16 is another of my regulars.

I didn't care for famous grouse much, and I'm no scotch expert. It was ok but had kind of a harsh bite I thought. For cheaper blended scotch I like Johnny Walker better. Had a bottle of Glendifich 12 year old single malt, that was really good and not super spendy. The famous grouse also gave me a hangover after three glasses one night. Had a very nice buzz but felt like shit the next morning. |
