Delicious stuff, but I generally prefer the more "Mexican" style hot sauces.  Cholula is my favorite.  Can't eat eggs without it.

Great on Ramen noodles, frozen pizza, breakfast sandwiches, and the sushi you get at Chinese food buffets.

I grew up using Sriracha. I'm Asian so it was one of the ingredients you needed for pho noodles. I was shocked at how people were making a big deal about it the past few years. That being said, it's definitely overrated. It's nothing special.

Siracha is a good basic hot sauce. It's everywhere, so like 9 MM, it's a good starting point.

I have taken a liking to a habanero sauce from Barbados called "Bajan". (Habaneros, Tumeric, Mustard, Onions, Garlic, and vinegar.)

You can get it in the US in the form of "Lottie's Caribbean Sunrise" sauce. Though it's cooked too much during bottling so doesn't have the same fresh taste.

Last week, I ordered directly from Barbados ($500 for 16 liters shipped) so should be awash in hot sauce for a year or two.

=-------

Edit: You guys need to remember, the "hot sauce" most folks are used to is vinegar-y nasty assed Tobasco.  For hot sauce, that was IT until the late 90's.  From that state, Siracha is a great leap forward.

Its good, but there are better sauces out there. Franks is a great everyday sauce.

There is one I've had that's Jamaican that's awesome, but I don't remember the name. I wish I could as I would buy a pallet.

I think this is it, need to double check it

Sriracha is great, but I've used it most roughly a year before it became "cool". Since then I found myself applying it a little less frequently and using other sauces. The Huy Fong Foods product I like the most these days is their "Chili Garlic Sauce". This stuff IMO is better than the bottled rooster sauce.

This is my latest favorite. I got it as a gift from my daughter and it's awesome. Only downside: it was gone too quickly. Peri-Peri hot sauce from South Africa. If you are a connoisseur of spicy sauces I recommend you try it.

I've seen it mentioned in a few threads. And the debate rages on, people say they like it ans some say they hate it.

Simple question: is Sriracha sauce great or is it awful.

I say it's great stuff.

The sauce itself is great.

But a chef or kitchen that relies on the stuff is a sign of a shitty restaurant. A typical marker of a bad "pan-Asian" place run by Chinese.

There are many choices, though.

I agree on both accounts.  I use the chili paste and don't even have the sriracha sauce.  I haven't had the super hot nandos, but the other ones were quite tasty!!!

I've never eaten large amounts of either Sriracha Sauce or the Chili Garlic Sauce but I've been using them since 1986.

So many DimSum places are using it  instead of real chinese hot sauce due to cost and it taste like shit when used as such.  Way over rated.

It would be much better if it wasn't so sweet.  Hot sauce shouldn't be sweet at all.

Anyone try Pistol Petes Siriacha?
Got a bottle on sale but waiting for the other bottle to run out before I open it.

I always referred to it as cock sauce, my wife was convinced that was the proper name for it. She asked for it once at the Chinese place.

I prefer Shark brand over the rooster Huy Fung stuff.  I found out about it while bartending in a thai restaurant and have been a fan ever since.  It isn't as hot, but has a more savory flavor to it.
