That's a lot of jumping out of air planes. Shouldn't you have statistically died from it?

A trucker gave me a USMC 1st recon coin once on I20 rest stop outside shreveport where i was having a coffee and minding my own business. He was elite scout sniper of course with many confirmed kills which I didn't want to know or ask about. I guess he saw my dad's vehicle that I was borrowing with the USMC sticker on the back when I backed in to the parking spot. I immediately didn't give a shit because I recently got my DD214 and left it with the tip.

Challenge coins are for pogues and just make Sgt. Grit and their Chinese producers richer.

That sucks

When he was Ranger camp he gave me a coin to give to my Son for his Eagle Scout ceremony.

I just hope one day he understand how lucky he was.

I got 1 during my first 3 or so years then a crap load in my last since I was sent to be a tour guide at the pentagon lol. I also keep a keychain nexxt to my coins. I took I think he was the bosnian equivalent of the chairmen of the join chief of staff for a tour he didn't have a coin so he gave me a keychain of their national crest I guess.

I-potatoed, the cat likes to walk on them hence the disjointed nature of the setup. Plus not all of em are coins, my cockade, OSD badge, JSAM, and a patch a random department we gave a tour to is there

The one coin I wanted but I never got he was out of em by the time I took a picture with him on his last day in office.

Thx. Honor Grad in this case meant that I shot ONE round better than one other student. We were tied at the end and did the final shot on the last day. I hit my target on the first shot, he hit it on his second. It was a close one. lol

Frankly I really don't know why I have kept this thing.

the only reason I got it was because my squad leader came to a realization after I took one step to the rear and a right face a began marching out of formation where a complete and total dirt bag was getting awarded an ARCOM for being a butt kisser.  he stopped me and  I went back to my position till the ceremony was over.

Afterwords we had an interesting discussion about what it meant to be a good soldier.  And it sure was not dirt bag with the ARCOM.  He acknowledge that he had failed the squad and had not recommended any of us for anything.  especially me.

A few days later we did a jump cheese show on Sicily DZ for some bigwigs.  nothing like IMTing 3-400 meters across Sicily with 8 smoke pots surrounding the "objective" and a broken SAW I got at the last minute because the SAW gunner was "sick" (later found out a spring on the cover was broken) and I landed hard and somehow managed to break the attaching clip for the drum, and would not attach to the gun. I finally ripped the whole belt out of the drum and continued to IMT with a 200 round loose belt with a gun that barely functioned.

the whole squad almost died of smoke inhalation as well as the other 2 squads in the platoon.

The next day we had a ceremony and myself and another guy from another platoon were called up to the front.  He looked at me and asked me what we were getting, I asked him the same question.

this is what the commander gave us

I later found out my Platoon leader opposed me getting anything, because I complained to much.  but my squad leader then asked him if I had ever failed to complete any task given to me, and the PL had to admit I usually went above what I was required to do.

Got an AAM a month or so later, but it really did not mean as much to me as maybe it should have.

The following thread got me thinking: Airborne Challenge Coin

What is your rarest Challenge coin or the one that means to most to you that your received from a service member?

This one was given to me by my father at his retirement ceremony after serving 30 years in the USAF as a SERE instructor.

I've got one from Mullen as well.  Top left in my pics.  He was an extremely cool guy.  Before he got back on the plane when we were escorting him in Iraq, as the props were turning and the crew was trying to get him on board, he waved them off and personally came up to each and everyone on my team, shook our hands and thanked us for doing a job well done and that he was proud of us.

First coin is pretty beat up from carrying it around for a year or so in Germany (4-7 Cav). I took better care of the other two.

These are the two that hold the most meaning to me even though both came after I got out. Both are for helping get some equipment upgrades into the hands of guys heading to some shitty places overseas. Left one is self explanatory, right is from the head of the Ambassadors Diplomatic Security Service detail.

Alright, you got me to come out of hiding.  I often lurk (on and off since 2003 if I remember correctly), but I never felt the need to post so I didn't setup an account until 2013.  Oh noes!  A 13'er!!!

Anyway, this is what I consider the coolest coin in my collection.  It was given to me by a soldier in the Korean Engineer unit that worked with my unit in Afghanistan in 2003.  I dig it because it is a coin from an Afghanistan deployed South Korean unit.  How cool is that!?
