The following thread got me thinking: Airborne Challenge Coin
What is your rarest Challenge coin or the one that means to most to you that your received from a service member? This one was given to me by my father at his retirement ceremony after serving 30 years in the USAF as a SERE instructor. |

Chuck Hagel secdef coin. Standby for pic
And one I got from a jtac down range |

We didn't have challenge coins when I was in the Army. All we had were Ham and Lima Beans C rations.

Well, it's been about 20 years, but this is in the bottom of my bag, just in case.

I design these things for a living, but have only been presented with two challenge coins in all my .mil time. (One of those two is from a four star, so that's cool. I'll have to find it later and post a photo.)
Anyone want to see some of the ones I designed? |

Honor Grad in this case meant that I shot ONE round better than one other student. We were tied at the end and did the final shot on the last day. I hit my target on the first shot, he hit it on his second. It was a close one. lol |

Here we are- I grabbed six of my coins from my desk at mostly random, photographed them, and loaded the pic onto photobucket- if all worked well, here it is: http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af36/spot2spot/SixRandomChallengeCoins_zps906e02d6_1.jpg I did the design and artwork for all of these, the VFW piece was direct-engraved on the die (not by me), and the rest of them used sculpts. (Shellback sculpted by England's Ed Llewellyn, Chinook and Huey sculpted by Steve Adams of Hobo nickel fame.) ETA: These are all US-made coins. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I'm so glad I didn't have to eat that shit. From all the stories I heard from my old man and his friends, C rats were truly terrible. I think they should have made a challenge coin out of the lids for those poor bastards every time you ate a meal. |

We got off track here. OP asked for rarest coin and now we are seeing entire collections and in some cases, not coins at all. lol
