It's funny but I picked-up a 1972 vintage 9mm Star BKM (aluminum framed/sorta rare) today at a local pawn shop for $175. It compares favorably with the newer compacts considering it's 1970s technology. At 26 oz. loaded it's 7 oz. heavier than the Shield and 6 oz heaver than the G-26 but it's a lot slimmer than both at a tad over .75" at the grips. It also has the advantage of a 4.5" barrel/longer sight radius. It's 7.75" long and 5" high. The extra length is hardly noticeable in a IWB holster because it's so slim. Like all M1911 styled pistols it carries it's weight and length comfortably. I've yet to shoot it but I've never had a issue with a M1911 styled Star pistol. http://oi59.tinypic.com/14kegwx.jpg Shown against a full sized B-series military pistol. http://oi58.tinypic.com/rck2dy.jpg I went with Pie. View Quote Nice! Great price too. Wow! Isn't that the one Col. Cooper spoke favorably of? |

Nice! Great price too. Wow! Isn't that the one Col. Cooper spoke favorably of? That would be the Starlite that Col. Cooper raved about. It the same gun just a later import by Interarms. My BKS was imported by The Garcia Corp, Washington DC that was later bought by Interarms. I've not researched it much yet but so far what I've read has been more than positive. Right smart of a deal too. |

Friend of mine has a shield and loves it, said it was killer right from the box.

I can conceal a G26 just as well as a Shield, so for me there's no reason to sacrifice the extra firepower. The Shield is thinner than the G26, but it's also taller, which is usually what determines concealability for most people. View Quote Pretty good post by XMM. I own both the Shield and a G26 as well as the M&P9C and G19. No question whatsoever, the G26 is the best when comparing it only to the Shield. Moar bullets is becoming moar important. I am of the opinion that capacity is becoming more important since this fucktard administration is allowing assholes to shut down expressways and cities to protest. If I travel the G19 will become my new travel piece. Right now in my relatively safe AO a G26-27 fills the bill. Pocket carry one everyday in an Alabama kydex pocket holster. If you "can't carry a gun" where you work, then I would sacrifice some capacity and carry the more easily concealable Kahr or the Shield. |

The Shield is winning, AR15.COM's love child has been laid low today. View Quote It depends on your clothes and style of carry. The g26 is shorter in height but not as slim. I tend to find the biggest issue I have with printing is from tall grips, but I tend not to tuck my shirt in and usually wear a larger shirt over an undershirt. If you dress such that width isn't an issue, the G26 gives you the option for MUCH larger mags. Oh, and the G26 shares holsters, sights, and parts with the other compatible glocks. YMMV. My answer is to get both, and I plan on owning both eventually. |

G26
I shot my Shield for the first time in a year a few days ago. I never did like it, but wanted to revisit why I never liked it. The first shot I fired launched the front sight dot to god knows where. I guess the feeling is mutual. |
I voted G26.... Wish I could've voted for a single stack glock nine tho...
I think the glock is a better gun but the shield is easier to carry for its thinness. If glock will make a single stack 9, I'll get one and dump the shield.

Shield - If you are really trying to carry concealed.
It is much slimmer in carry when having it counts. If you are going to carry a double column 9mm, might was well make it a 19 and get 15+1 |
I carry a G26 w/ Crimson Carry laser. Great little gun. And also fits my hand well with the 12 round mag adapters. and it's cool to share all the other 9mm Glock mags.

I have both but I don't like the trigger on the Shield, its hard to find the reset. There are 3 or 4 spots that feel like the reset that aren't and the actual reset isn't nearly as positive compared to the Glock.

26 with that choice, but unless it's something like ankle carry where the 26 is a bit too heavy I'd rather have a 19.
Ruger LC9. If you want subcompact, get one that is actually small. Still shoots well, and with the longer magazine holds 9+1.
I like them both but they have different roles. One is slim for carry, the other is small but can hold a bigger capacity.
Glock guy here, but my regular carry is the Shield. My 26 was too thick and actually started to irritate my sciatic nerve (had a crossbreed IWB holster too, most comfortable one I've ever used but the gun was just too thick).
I carry a Shield more often than any of my other carry guns. The slim profile is a huge plus down here where it is t-shirt weather 350 days a year.
I have both. I either carry the Shield or a Glock 19. The 26 isn't much smaller than the 19 and you give up 5 rounds. I gave the 26 to my daughter.
Y'all must have some small girly hands. The 26 is too hard to hold onto for me. The little bit of extra grip length on the shield is perfect for me. I shoot them both about the same, but have choose the shield over the 26. Its a perfect CC gun. If you don't mind the lack of rounds compared to the 26 go with the shield. If you want more rounds go for the 26.
To be honest they aren't really comparable guns. The shield shoots really good for such a small gun though. Of course the 26 does too but it's really thick compared to a single stack. |

Glock 26 my Shields magazine release has rust on it... Went to clean it today and magazine release was stuck so I pressed down really hard and finally it dropped the magazine. If you want a single stack then the shield. I just got a 380 bodyguard as a pocket pistol. Any other scenario GLOCK.
I say get a Glock 27.... but I am pretty devoted to 40 caliber since my duty gun is 40 caliber.
Shield can be a pocket pistol while the G26 is a IWB holster pistol which begs why not a G19?
A friend gifted me with an LC9 with the Galloway upgrade. I would like a Glock 26 or a Shield. But this Ruger shoots and carries so good for me I just can't justify it.
I have a Glock 19 3rd gen already with many mags so I can't justify getting the 26 now. Can't figure out how the shield beats the Ruger with the trigger upgrade... Patrick |
since I have a glock 26 and none of the other choices, I have to go with glock 26
