What do you think will happen to a Tahoe offroad?

It gets expensive too.

Decent tires and the factory traction aid work fine, and with a light foot and good driving, they're acceptable.  Obviously not as good as a purpose built vehicle by any means, but I never had any problems with my wife's Tahoe in 4-low, with some 265/75 AT's and picking a good line.   My half-ton Silverado was a similar experience, although it was lighter in the ass and actually didn't do as well as the Tahoe in similar conditions, despite having the same drivetrain and similar tires.

Anyone who buys a full-size specifically for an off-road machine is fooling themselves. The H2 has a lot of factory features that make it more capable without sacrificing the SUV/light truck functionality.  I've dragged trailers on remote trails to secluded camping spots, and never "mobility killed" myself under those conditions, and that was with lifted crew cabs.

I can tell you where one is....My garage.

'06 48k miles.  Got a work car so miles stay low.

Its been a great car.  And I love it despite the hate - I have never experienced so much hate from people for an inanimate object.  Other than anti-gunners...

If you care to do some reading on H2 compared to a Tahoe.  They aren't the same thing...but that's just, like facts dude....(shares more with the 2500...)

I see one everyday at work.  A guy in the shop has one, but he doesn't seem to be able to make it to work when it snows because of bad driving conditions.

In all fairness to the H2, it is probably not the trucks fault.

There's a guy who lives in my complex who has one, works out the same time I do, so I see one every day pretty much.

He bought it in an auction, wrecked, and slapped it back together so I don't blame him...was a steal. Gaudy, but meh.

There are a lot of them in my area.  Most have been bought up by the the drug dealers.

As a former owner I wish I had kept mine.  It was one of the best vehicles I have owned.

No wait,

You were serious.

Yes, because LR with their shit electronics and expensive repairs are more reliable than an H2 which is based off an SUV/truck platform they made eleven gazillion of.

How many landies or full size GM trucks have you owned there edgelord?

I worked for Willis Lexus in Iowa years ago. Willis also sold Cadillac, Volvo, Jaguar, Infinity, Hummer, and Land Rover. When Willis gained Land Rover one of the GM techs couldn't sign up fast enough to jump over to the Land Rover garage to wrench on them. They are always broke. He stood to make more bonus money as there was more work with fewer techs to compete with.

Don't get me wrong. Hummers were in quite a bit too. Usually H1's because of the on board tire pressure system failing and bleeding down tires. Or H2's because some guy put 26"+ wheels on and would wear the air ride sensor off of the frame or rub on the sway bar from turning to sharp.

When most people mention vehicles they never see anymore, it's usually something built in 19-something.

H2s were too expensive to be really high volume sellers, but it seemed like I couldn't leave my house without seeing them. And considering the obnoxious eye sores they are, they were kinda hard to miss.

I very rarely see them now, and I'm not sure why. They have LS engines, so I doubt they all died.

Where'd they go?

When these first came out, I had been working at the sole dealer for them in N. Florida for only a week in 2003. GM gave me a $500 bonus because we sold so much of them in the first quarter they came out. I bought an SAR-1 AK-47 and 1K ammo at a gunshow a day after I got that bonus, my how the times have changed price wise I had just turned 18.

ETA: I did PDI on them, and I seriously doubt there is anyone who has driven more of them than me. I drove them for 7 miles to ensure nothing was fucked up. I probably have driven over 200 H2s.

I saw a H2 & H3 today in Middle TN.  As others have said, I don't look for them everyday.  This is especially true during the last few months when I have been paying more attention to how many of the various small SUV's as an informal gage to reliability to expect from them.

Yesterday.

I was marveling at how rare they seem to be these days, myself.

I think a lot of folks bought them when you could write off such vehicles as business expenses.

Then drove the wheels off.

I looked at one when doing contract work, and was unimpressed.

A jacked up Tahoe, with half the useable interior space, and a third the outward visibility?

With a fiberglass hood held on with rubber bands?

At a premium?

Sign me up.

They do look sorta cool, still.

I used to teach off road driving for a school that had (for a while) H2's.   They broke ALL the time. Steering, front CV's etc... ALL the time. The skid plate under the engine broke a lot too.  Eventually, they gave up on the H2s, cleaned them up, took off the school decals and traded them in to dealers in NY and NJ. They have no idea those things had been through hell.  I snapped a front axle driving gently over a phone pole diameter fallen tree.  A fricken lifted Corolla could have done better.
