Hmm.  I could never stand the Gary Jules remake of Mad World.  It isn't really a remix, though.

In before "Hurt" - another remake that I cannot stomach.

"Bad Company" and "House of the Rising Sun" by FFDP

"Saturday Night" by Nickleback-Kid Rock

"In The Air Tonight" by Nonpoint

"Turn the Page" by Metallica

And I'm not a Rob Zombie guy but his "American Band" is pretty good.

All better than the originals IMO (at least to some degree). But I am a young guy! . Of course it isn't hard to beat Elton John!

It's not my favorite song by any means, but the Phil Collins version is so long and slow. But I still like it too. I still like all classics but it's hard to deny a well done update!

Hate to say it but Fly Like an Eagle by Seal:

It's got that little bit of added funk in the rhythm that really makes it. Plus excellent production and mixing. I assume we are actually talking about covers rather than remixes.

That much is apparent, youngster, if you actually think FFDP did any justice whatsoever with "House of the Rising Sun". Because they fucking butchered that shit, son!

Can't believe this wasn't mentioned yet:

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix

I think Stone Temple Pilot's version of Dancing Days was better than Led's.

And +1 for Five Finger Death Punch's - Bad Company, and Metallica'a - Turn the Page.

I like this better than Sweet Home Alabama, but to be fair, I grew up in the 80's not the 70's, so those a little older than me probably find this to be a bastardization.

In this thread we discover that people don't know the difference between covers and remixes.

The Funker Vogt remix of "Straight to Video" by Mindless Self Indulgence is way better.

Using the Miami Vice remake in the video was my first clue how bad it was going to be.  Oh, and trying to top Phil Collins' version.

When I saw Bush in concert back in 1999, they did a cover of Break on Through (original by The Doors).   It was pretty awesome.

Has anyone known of any good covers to Led Zeppelin's The Ocean?

You know, I just recently heard that was a remake. It surprised the hell out of me.

Jimi did a hell of a job on that one.

ETA - Ah, Dylan. I just listened to a sample of his version. Now I know why Jimi's is better known. Of course, I've never been about to acquire a taste for Dylan, either, so I guess it isn't so surprising I don't like his version.

I liked the remake of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky"
by Dr. and the Medics.

Little more snappy and slick.

I think the song sound better like that.
