I HATE seafood- lobster and shrimp are like grub worms to me.
Scallops, clams and the shellfish are teh suck.

Other than Halibut and Swordfish, got no love for anything from the ocean.

But pickled Herring?

ALL FISH EATER here.  I haven't seen any pickled herring with a dill sauce, non-sweet, in this area.  This is not a fish eating area per-say.  I miss a good pickled herring with dill sauce.

It was always one of my favorites. My mom would mix German pickles, and green apples, along with a few spices mixed together, and put it all on top of a baked potato. Talk about a tasty, filling dish. You would literally almost burst open, even though the potato was somewhat smaller than a good old American baked potato.

Love the pickled herring in wine sauce with onions.

Went to Holland a few years back and was staggered to find they have herring stands on the streets of Amsterdam.

Not a fan of picked with sour cream.  Prefer just in white wine. Maybe some fresh sour cream on the side

Tried it didn't like it.  A couple of my cousins eat it all the time at family gatherings. I never aquired the taste for it.

Pickled Herring is awesome. My mom used to make it in a wonderful dill/sour cream sauce back when we lived in Germany. Local German butcher in the area sells it from time to time. Brings back memories. Yummy stuff

I have to give GD credit as never heard of pickled herring in sour cream before.

All that is ever on the shelves here is in wine sauce and onions or roll mops (rolled around a piece of pickle and skewered with a toothpick).

Next time I go stateside, I now know another food I'll have to pick up and taste.
