I just got home from seeing American Sniper.
I was floored by the audience at the end of the movie. Everyone was quiet. Not a word, not a peep. The movie ended, and everyone walked out of the theater without saying a word. You could hear a pin drop. It was a packed house in a very large theater. I don't live in a small town, quite the opposite. I live in a large metropolitan area full of assholes. I did not expect that everyone would show that level of respect. It was actually pretty cool. |

I had the same thing happen when i saw it. It was, well i can't really articulate the words to express how i felt.

Exact same thing Friday night in Charlotte NC. Packed house full of chatty cathys before the movie started. Totally silent, somber exit. Only other time it's happened to me was seeing Saving Private Ryan four days after opening in Atlanta.
When the mind is so overwhelmed with respect that it just goes silent, that's a moving experience.

Same thing last weekend. Everyone I talk to says the same thing.
|
|
I think that's been pretty common. That was my experience, though I don't live around a bunch of assholes like you.
Phrasing...Take it as you will. |
|
In one of the many other threads about the movie someone told a cool story. They said that when they were walking out one of the girls who worked at the theater pointed to their group as they were leaving the theater and said something like "that's the group that just saw American Sniper. You can tell." I believe it. |

Saw it the other night here in Georgia. Same response. Very humbled and respectful.

Same thing happened on Tuesday night when my wife and I saw it in Liberal ass California, seems to be a common theme.

i was gonna post something similar. I saw it tonight with the same experience. FMM FBO
Bradley Cooper killed it, I thought it was incredible and was almost moved to tears several times. I personally think it was incredible. |

When I saw it, people gave it a standing ovation at the end. Theater was packed as well.

Saw it the Thursday before its Friday full release date. Seemed rehearsed how quietly and orderly everyone got out. People in rows lower even stood there letting others walk by, instead of butting into spaces to get out.
Act Of Valor had a lot of people leaving during the ending tribute. Nobody left for this one. |

Definitely one of the most raw movies released in recent memory. No politics. No hidden agenda. Just a crystal clear, tightly focused view of a real man. Glad to see that most movie goers took notice. I wish Lone Survivor was done this well. |
|
Same thing happened when I saw it in Syracuse, NY. People can't help but be reverent when exposed to heroism.
|
|
|
I haven't seen it yet, but it was the same way at the end of Lone Survivor when my wife and I watched it at the theater.
Plan on going to see it when I get home. |
|
When I went to see it, the audience clapped for a bit...and then went to straight silence.

I have not been able to see it yet, but when Hamburger Hill came out the same thing happened. You could hear a pin drop as people slowly got up and shuffled out the door a lot like the walking wounded in the movie that just finished.

WHEN I SEE THIS I'LL BE SURE AND START MY VERY OWN THREAD. WHY NOT? EVERYONE ELSE DOES

And sometimes a guy can be forgiven for sins, if only for a day or so

What ya all experienced is what we used to call "Reverence".
The end of the movie is a gut punch to the American way of life and we all felt it as it unfolded but it still shocks when you see it again. |

Ours was quite too except for the surprised laugh from a teenager at the back row when they showed that Kyle was killed by someone with PTSD.
I couldn't believe it when I heard it. Some Polish teenager with his date... |
|
Yep, that is what Eastwood designed it to do, and it worked.
Same thing when I saw American History X |
|
Blackhawk Down had the same effect when my dad and I saw it. I did not hear a word spoken from the crowd until we hit the sidewalk outside the theater.

And that's why the progressive liberal cabal has been bashing this film as well as Chris Kyle.
