In your attempt to state facts, you conveniently left out the fact that his first trial ended with a hung jury, and the prosecutor jury shopped for the second trial. Also, to date, nobody has stated officially what police duties he allegedly interfered with. The charge, and ultimate conviction were for contempt of cop. Please explain what you mean by "jury shopping." Problem is, the trial wasn't about the 2nd Amendment but of causing a scene. Oh I know what he wants. Hard to keeo track... ya'll are worse than a pregnant woman sometimes. How could the trial be about "causing a scene" when the stop occurred on a back road with no uninvolved parties present? Further, Texas Penal Code does not provide, so far as I am aware, penalties for "causing a scene". |

Another question for CJ if he ever pokes his head back in here:
You said earlier that yesterday (1/26) was OCT's lobbying day at the capital. Today (1/27) Lt Gov Patrick said he doesn't think we have the votes in the Senate to pass Open Carry. Are you ready to reevaluate your lobbying tactics now, after 3 sessions of failure by being confrontational and abrasive? |

According to my sources inside the leg, they were even "aggressive and abrasive" to the members who are pushing open carry and Constitutional carry. They pretty much pissed off everyone, for and against. Hence the split from OC Texas. Nor can they tell the difference from the rest of us gunowners and nor will they NOT gleefully jump on these idiots' antics to tar us all with the same brush. Open Carry movements draw the sort of folks that have trouble conceptualizing the value of incrementalism. Theres at least two reasons for that: 1) The right wing (Limbaugh et al) have painted incrementalism as an evil tool of the left. Here's another gem: Texas Lawmakers Vote for Panic Buttons Following a dust-up Tuesday when gun rights activists confronted state Rep. Poncho Nevárez in his office, members of the Texas House moved Wednesday to heighten their sense of safety at the Capitol. The members attached an amendment to a perfunctory general housekeeping rule to allow lawmakers to get so-called panic buttons in their offices that would allow them to summon officers from the Department of Public Safety. ----------------- On Tuesday a gun rights group led by Kory Watkins went to several lawmakers’ offices to push for an open carry law ----------------- Former Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, the original author of the state’s concealed handgun law, said the tangle in Nevárez’s office, which ended with a call to police and the representative tossing the activists out, was an example of the group “trying to pick a fight” and exploit it on the Internet. In the end, Watkins probably did more harm to his cause than good, Patterson said. “That episode might have killed constitutional carry,” Patterson said So they were able to get some legislation passed. They pushed the bill through to get panic-buttons installed real quick. To my understanding it has already passed. Good job you warriors for liberty! ETA: Here in KY we've managed to pass pro-gun legislations via lobbying our legislature behind the scenes. Recently we got some better CCW stuff passed (we already had CCW this just made things better) as well as a shall-issue NFA CLEO sign-off bill by lobbying behind the scenes and with a little help from one of the NRA's lawyers. KY is a top the list of states with good gun rights. We have been controlled by democrats for over 100 years. This is a chess game not checkers. |
