Sending your kid to school someday and using a 529 plan?
As of now your taxable income goes into the account at today's rates and has been guaranteed tax free upon withdrawal for tuition for your kids. The current proposal suggest this income will now be taxed a second time upon withdrawal. This hits the middle class squarely. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ryanellis/2015/01/19/obamas-new-state-of-the-union-tax-hike-on-middle-class-529-college-savers/ |

They were never the best of idea anyway for the middle class, but with the astronomical cost of education, double taxing the 529 is just ridiculous.
HE, can't tax anything. Its just a talking point to get Hillary elected.
They'll never curtail government spending, so they have to tax everything. Even the things they said they wouldn't.
Well, how else was going to give away 2 years of free community college.
So fuck that piece of shit. What is the best option right now then fo saving for a child's education?
Ah, I see you saved for 18 years for your sons tuition, lol give me half dat rayqwongela needs to get her overpriced medical billing and coding certificate.

However, if you wanted a tax advantage vehicle, you could open a brokerage account c/o "kids name" and buy some good municipal bonds and MLP's. |

It's okay, the government's going to give everyone a free [community] college education.
No need to save money or be responsible, just make sure your kids can keep a C+ average while they switch majors 5 times and spend 8 years drunk while working on their associate's degree in underwater basket weaving. |

Basically, he's saying that it's not fair that some people's parents were responsible enough to start saving for college so their children don't have to incur debt.

The original money will be taxed only once. The increase in value over that amount will be taxed upon withdrawl, for any reason. It used to be that this went untaxed if it was withdrawn to pay for college, but taxd if withdrawn to be used for any other reason. Now this acount wil function the same as any other mutual fund type account . . . . which makes me wonder why you would choose it? |
The problem with Socialism is that sooner or later, you run out of other people's money.
They're probably going to push for nationalizing college education.
Mark my words, 'progressives' will get to doing that soon. |
Great... so much for those 529s I ALREADY FULLY-FUNDED for my kids.
Yeah. It's not fair that my wife and I saved and banked money to do that. |

After the tax law change (which was made permanent in 2006), amounts withdrawn to pay for college were totally tax free. 529 plans thus became a kind of Roth IRA for college savings–you didn’t get any up front tax break (except maybe on your state income tax), but you could rest assured that your college nest egg’s growth would face no taxation when it came time to make tuition payments.
The Obama plan aims to turn back the clock, once again taxing earnings growth in 529 plans as ordinary income. This is a direct and clear tax increase on middle class families sacrificing to save for college, and it’s likely to result in a mass divestment from this type of savings. |
I mean if college is about to be free why do you need that college savings account? Do you have bourgeoisie pipe-dreams of your children going to a private college and joining the proletariat opressors? You need to check those thoughts and get with the the collectivist program, comrade, before I report you to the Stasi.

Fuck College, anyhow. It's just druken debauchery and indoctrination.

Let's punish the responsible. But hey, as I've been told many times here in GD there's absolutely no difference between R and D. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

If you think your Roth IRA is safe, think again. Just a matter of time before the means test applies...and you got all that money without paying your fair share.

He has a 529 for his kid already set up. He is already realizing the four vote(s) in his household were a mistake. This should push him over the edge. |
