So awesome. I like the FFG blade in the middle best and I like the cully-curved handle on the third blade. Great work.

The look of the full flat grind is really growing on me, i'm not sure what caused a change in my tastes.

It's just so much cleaner and I find the edge to be superior for EDC.

Hopefully i'll get good at them on the grinder,  i've watched all kinds of videos but i can only learn so much from watching.   I'm not always sure why i've made a ceratin mistake, but i guess thats all part of experience.

I've wanted to make my own for months now.  This past weekend my friend and I finally went out and gathered all the materials to make a coffee can forge.  Next I'm going to make a file jig.  Then I can finally get some steel and some micarta and give it a go.

Thanks you for keeping this thread up to date.  It serves as great inspiration.

Update # 10

Boy am I glad to have these back, I've been pretty excited to finish them up.   Thanks again to bldsmith, I cannot thank you enough, I know I sound like a broken record but I appreciate it.

Well here they are, a bit different than last time I saw them

Here they are with my other projects

Lets get all this scale shit off

Yay sanding!!

after literally 30 seconds with 120 grit

cleaning up the other side

removing it from the spine, sides, etc...

Now I started to clean up the blade.   Here I go with 220 grit and some WD40

I also used one of my small flat files laid on top of the sand paper to clean up my plunge line (I'm an idiot for not trying this before it left for HT)

sanding sanding sanding finally up to 600 grit

This here is about an hour of sanding, just the one side

Here it is next to the other knife

Things I noticed.   When you get up to the higher grits and the finish starts getting really nice you have to be careful how you draw down along the blade, if I started too early or at a weird angle I would get marks, that would then need to be sanded out.

As people here have said, videos online and other forums I switched the angle that I sanded at with every grit, this really helped should off any scratches from the previous grit.   I swear some scratches felt like they where a mile deep and they would never come out, but they did and I hung in there.

If you guys are on the fence about trying this out, don't hesitate, its some of the most fun I've ever had, and I'm in NY, we're not even allowed to have fun.

The Coote grinder cost me just under $600 including shipping, that was for the model with the biggest contact wheel.   Link

The motor I bought was about $170,  I bought that from Grizzly.   Grizzly Motors

For me it seemed to be the best value, there really isnt much variety between the cheap grinders and the higher end ones.    This seemed to fit the spot as best as it could.  I'm happy so far.

If possible, can you go into detail when you do your scales for your handle?  This is the part that has me most worried when making my own because I don't work with wood at all and don't know the best way to do them.  Especially how you attach them.  Thanks!

Maybe, but I KNOW your supervisor (Mrs Ciraxis)

In case you have not thought about it, I am sure "Guillermito" will probably love having one of your first knives when he grows up, so you may want to consider saving one for him

I know it seems very remote to you now, but children grow up so fast that before you know, they are in college or get married

Looks like you have 1\4" pin holes. Have you thought about making some mosaic pins? Super simple and ad some detail to the scales.

I prefer a satin finish on blades, so i doubt i'll go higher than 600.    I've never seen a satan finish though

Scales are the easiest part of making knives, you almost have to try to screw it up.
