I'm no gamer. In truth, I actually have an aversion to video games.
BUT, I'm wondering if there's a PS3 game (in particular) which uses an actual hand-held "rifle" or "carbine" to simulate shooting - either at traditional targets, or things of a more, real-world, tactical nature. A pistol could even be useful. Does such a thing exist? I'm looking for more a simulator, as opposed to a game. Anybody? Thanks! |

I would recommend the training missions in call of duty. Very helpful! It's even timed!

Get an airsoft gun and practice in your garage. IMHO, good for practicing landing that first round. |

Jesus I had no idea games had got so raunchy. I know, living under a rock. Still a very fun game. My wife even enjoyed playing it with the boys. Muted of course.

My sight aquisition improved from playing Call of Duty... Even on the console with the XBOX 360 controller*. No, this isn't a basement operator post. Honest analysis. -p. * Video games are no substitution for range time, of course, but they do help with sight picture optic memory.

On a somewhat related note, I've been meaning to ask.
What is the name of that long range simulator?? There is a free online demo of it, Flash I think. In the desert, you have to run your own dope and hit the silhouette's at different random ranges. |

Israelis used to have a film projected on white screen that would freeze frame at the shot and you would have a bullet hole between the eyes of the terrorist with the hostage. Saw it on 60 Minutes or 20/20 back in 80s. All were using Browning HP.

View Quote I played a TON of CoD (20th prestige on MW3, almost 100k kills) in high school, and I just recently started getting somewhat serious about handgun shooting. Everything seems to come naturally and the older guys at USPSA say that I make them feel bad for being new and picking it up so quickly, so maybe there is a correlation. The inner scientist in me wants to collect data over a several-year span on new shooters that play video games vs. those that don't, and see how they compare or if there is any statistically significant difference in their performances with an actual gun. |

Go on a deer drive, use a 1-4/6 scope or red dot and learn to shoot moving critters.
works, ive killed a lot of deer running full tilt in the woods. Some as close as 10ft. You could practice rolling mellons or something in an open field, sounds crazy but it helps! |

A friend of mine developed a diopter you slide over the end of your scope for dry firing inside at 14 feet. Some others have developed ways to use targets on a lap top to hone their skills with this diopter.
He calls his diopter Indoor optimal training aide. |
