Poll inbound.

I already own 2 ARs, Sig 556R, suppressors, and a couple of modern high capacity polymer pistols.

I've got a bonus coming and was originally planning on STI Tactical 5.0.  After doing research, it appears to reliably cycle factory 9mm ammo, the $2K+ firearm will need to be further tuned. .

Next, I considered a Sig X-Five Classic. This is where I'm currently leaning.

Then, I realized that if I spend $2400 on an X-Five, I'm most of the way to a Sig 553P (a Swiss built Sig rifle is one of my Grail guns)

Then, I realized that both of my ARs are Frakenguns, and at $2400, I could probably get a LaRue PredatAR and ACOG for around $2500.

So, what does GD think I should buy?

What type of shooting are you most into?  What gun would get to the range most, be used for carry most, be used for gaming most....fill in the blank with your own interests.

That's the questions I would ask and what would help me make the decision.

Get the LaRue.

I bought too many handguns in my early gun collecting days.   Don't make the same mistake.

What you want it for, building up collection?

I like AR's, but they are dime-a-dozen.  Unless you don't have all the popular flavors of AR's like
AR pistol
AR carbine
AR DMR
AR full size rifle

$2500 gets you a SCAR-17.

Bad news is that you'll want to upgrade the trigger and get optics to make it really shine.

$2500 on a handgun?

If you're not going to carry it on you, or shoot it in competition, what's the point?  Handguns are horribly underpowered compared to rifles.

"Then, I realized that if I spend $2400 on an X-Five, I'm most of the way to a Sig 553P (a Swiss built Sig rifle is one of my Grail guns) "

go with the "grail gun".

I'd get a Witness or CZ race gun and bank the remainder.

I have an STI and a Larue PredatAR, and a shooting buddy has a Sig X5. I'd recommend the PredatAR out of all of those.

A PredatAR with ACOG is a very capable and versatile rifle.

No experience with Swiss Sig rifles.

I have a p226 X-5 Competition.

I also have a p226 X-6 L1.

And, frankly, I also have a LT=Predatar 5.56 16"...

I love them all like children - but - since you already have other AR's and only polymer pistols...I vote X5

What's the story on that digicam Sig? Was that a custom finish job or a limited edition?

All 3 are great weapons to choose from and I have all 3.  But, I voted for the 553P, primarily because there will be no more imported.  If you can get your hands on one of them, I would recommend that.

Can't go wrong with any of them though!

The grips are from a SIG limited edition, the paint job was mine via Duracoat

This is the truth !!!!   My x5 Tactical feels like shooting an airsoft pistol !!!

I own an STI in .40 and it's also a great pistol.  Have had it for 10 years with thousands of rounds and almost no malfunctions.  The x5 is new to me with only about 400 rounds through it.

Both are great guns and you need both !!!

Pistols suck

Rifle is always the answer.

Especially when it's a LaRue.

X-Five.

I have two checks coming in over the next few weeks.  Once I recieve the 2nd one, I'll be buying.

ETA: I've even considered going Tactical and using the $$ saved to start my 553P fund.

Good luck I know you'll enjoy shooting it like no other handgun you've ever fired; it's an entirely different world.

I've achieved the best accuracy, with Fiocchi 115 grain Shooting Dynamics ammo which I buy buy the thousands when it's available from Palmetto State Armory.

Any problems, let me know if I can help.

I'm a SIG guy but went LaRue. An X-Five is too big to carry so I'd get that after the rifle. If you already have a carry gun you don't "need" another pistol. Buy the LaRue. When you get it, sell the other AR's that you no longer need and buy the X-Five. WINNING!

In the end, they are all just tools.  Only pointing it out, if you didn't know about the additional wear.

Have you shot the X6? I have shot both, and the X6' recoil is in my hands less than the X5.

Never ran Wolf, but there was one brand of 124 grain JHP that recoiled LESS in both the X5 & X6 than Lawman/Speer etc FMJ.

That same JHP was showing more recoil (compared to FMJ) in other brands of handguns. A bunch of us could not explain it.
