Hey guys, anybody know much about pre-paid phones?
I'm looking to go cheap, cheap as I can get, I don't care if it has internet or text, as long as it makes and receives calls. I found this one, it says triple minutes for the life of phone. Is there a better deal somewhere, or a better way to go about this? Thanks....link below. egay link |

Net 10. Get one that doesn't do internet/wifi. Just text and talk.
You can get $25 a month plans. Some of those cheap ones have a fee for you to use it on top of the minutes. At&T is like that. |
That is pretty much what wife and I have and we have had their service for about 4 years. Works great for us, but we don't yak on the phone much and no phone internet.
Caution though, if you buy from other than Tracfone you will have to wait a few extra days for them to send you a new SIM card. If you order from them they put the appropriate new card in before they ship. |
Wal Mart Tracfone. $30 for the phone $30 a month. No complaints. But I hardly use it.
I am running an iphone5 on straight talk which runs about $50 per month. My wife has one of the cheaper tracphones with triple minutes. Bought her a 1 year card with like 1500 minutes for $100.
No problems with either one. |

Thanks, I'll go have a look at those too. We've been using Net10 for well over a year now on AT&T's network. Super deal, whole family covered for just a bit more than one of us before. Use WiFi and you've have no issues with hitting the data caps. |

It would probably be OK for me. |

Virgin Mobile $45 no contract, unlimited calls, unlimited text, data is throttled to 2G speeds once your data threshold has been reached.
I have a prepaid plan and it has saved me about $70/month for several years. I'm never going back to contract again.
iWireless - $25/month gets 500MB 4G, then unlimited 3G. 1000 minutes, unlimited texts. |

AT&T Go Phone.
Around $35 for the phone. $1 per day IF you make or receive a call. $0.10 a minute for calls. $25 lasts 90 days, and balance rolls over if you put another $25 on the thing before 90 days are up. Or you can just put $100 on it and it lasts a year. You can accumulate something like $500 No idea what text charges are. I never use it for that. If you just want a simple cell with limited text it is a real bargain. Just a plain old simple emergency phone. |

Cheapest I've seen lately is H2O wireless. $10 / 200 mins. 5c/min/text. 10c/ MB data. Any GSM phone. Add money as needed.
Straight Talk, unlimited everything for about $45 a month. Switched from Virgin and am loving it (AT&T before Virgin... it sucked).
T-Mobile pay as you go plan. $100 worth of minutes usually lasts a year for me.
I had republic wireless for three years. They served me well.
$10 a month will get you what you want. |
Man, I have some homework to do you guys.
I better get on it, my phone is broke |
Walmart virgin phone was $20.
Service is $22/mo with unlim talk and 50 free texts. Can get unlim both for $40, iirc Edit: i see tweaker beat me to it |
I had a virgin mobile phone for a while. It was $35 a month for 300 minutes and unlimited data. They have cheaper plans now and more options. I think the cheapest plan is around $20 a month, and $50 a month for unlimited everything.
I have an AT&T smart phone Go Phone.
The plan I use is the $45.00 a month for unlimited phone, text, and high speed data up to 1gb, then a unlimited at a slower speed. I signed up for auto refill, and save $5 a month... so it's actually $40.00 per month. The phone I use fits my needs, but I do need a new one. |
Anybody know anything about Cricket? They have $35/month unlimited talk, text and data, supposedly with AT&T's coverage area. What's the catch?

You should look at Republic Wireless. My phone was $99 and I pay $10/month for unlimited talk and text. No contract whatsoever.
The way they keep it cheap is use VOIP while you're on WiFi and Sprint (I believe) CDMA towers when you're not, so they offload a lot of the work from the towers. link Or you can add unlimited data starting at like $25/month. |
I had a virgin mobile and it got terrible service out in Wyoming and Colorado area.
I have a deactivated Tracfone LG 840G you can have, but it won't come with the triple minutes.
I'd recommend going to Tracfone.com and getting the ZTE valet for thirty bucks with triple minutes for life. The valet is the one I currently have. I spend a little over $100 per year but I don't spend a lot of time on the phone. |
Tracfone with LG Ultimate.
$120 down and $100 a year for several, hundred minutes. Phone is android with easy texting and good voice features. Camera. Email and web available in an emergency. Wifi capable. Good deal.
Ting Wireless.
Pay only for what you use. Wife and I on the same account average $27 a month for two Android phones. We're fairly light users. Ting Wireless |

Best deal is Tracfone or Straight Talk right now.
I have Straight Talk unlimited everything for $45 a month. They have phones that run on Verizon towers, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. Just pick the one that works best in your area. |

Wow... some of you really don't understand the word CHEAP. He wants to make and receive calls, not the extra shit some of you are rambling about.
OP, go to HSN.com and search for Tracfone. That will probably get you the cheapest Tracfone deal out there. I see one for $67.96 that includes 365 service days and 1500 minutes. Might even be better than that if I took the time to look closer. |

Burner View Quote Word. That's what I ended up with. I got a tracfone from the dollar store, for $10, with the card it ended up being less than $50....and I got 460 minutes. (it gets double minutes) Plus it has a HUGE screen, like the size of a postage stamp, so there's that. If it doesn't work out, I'll just get something else. Thanks you guys for the help. |

Yeah I would say I spend about $120 a year for my tracfone service. I hate contracts so I have been using tracfone since 2006. I actually have the best tracfone available right now, the LG Ultimate II. It's a pretty decent smartphone that cost me $120. I don't talk or text much on it, use hardly any data. It's nice to have the larger screen though if I want to check arfcom somewhere where there is Wifi. I never have to contact tracfone for any reason, so although their CS sucks, its a non-issue for me. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
