I have this fantasy that someday I'm going to find something like at a garage sale for $100. So far it has not panned out, but I'm still looking. Thats fucking amazing. |

I hate all of you for the money this thread will cost me...Looking at Uberti 1873 repros now and SAA revolvers...

Any idea as to the worth of an 1894 saddle ring carbine in 38/55 that was built in 1895? Has the flip up rear sight also. The ONLY thing hurting this rifle is the current owner refinished the damn stock. He did a great job doing it, but I cant help but think it would be worth more if he had left over 100 years worth of patina (grease, grime, blood?) on it. Blueing is still original and I would rate it at 90% or better. Hes offered to sell it to me numerous times for 1500 and so far I havent been able to make myself pay it. I know he bought it about 15 years ago for 1K.

View Quote Hehe, I REALLY wanted to buy a replica Henry to complete the set, but they were so damned expensive at the time... I finally got tired of shooting black powder and how labor-intensive it was to clean the guns afterward and I wound up selling my Armies, my 51 Navy, and my Walker at a gun show. I even have a Reconstruction-era Western novel partially written from back then. Never got around to finishing it. |

That looks more like a replica of a Civil War Henry rifle.
I'd love to have one. The 66th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, informally known as Birge's Western Sharp Shooters, bought Henrys for themselves. |

Two SAA revolvers, one third model dragoon, 61 Colt Navy, two Shiloh Sharps rifles, 76 Uberti in 50-95, Browning 1886 45-70. And a Ruger Vaquero. Coach gun/exposed
hammers hanging on the wall. |

The OP rifle looks more like a Henry rifle , not a 1873 Winchester. Partial to Colt SAA ,Smith and Wesson, Winchesters and Merwin Hulbert

I inherited a Uberti 1873 Winchester clone in 45LC from my late uncle - I love this rifle (just as he did). Anyway, I think I've been bitten by the "guns of the old west" bug because now I want another lever action rifle (probably a Henry clone), a Sharps rifle of some flavor, and a single action revolver. They look totally badass, are a joy to shoot, and you really feel like you're holding a piece of history (even with a clone) when you're slinging lead down range. Most of my money goes into my AR, SCAR, and AK collection, but western guns are the next best thing in my book. So, what's your favorite pistol, rifle, or shotgun from the Old West? Something you already own or something you want? In my opinion, this is the most beautiful gun ever made: http://web.ivenue.com/cowboycabin/images/Gun1860Henry5.jpg View Quote That is just cool as hell! |
