Off grid living is hard. Insanely hard. I grew up here and to put it bluntly, you couldn't pay me to live completely off grid up here. It is possible but you'd be working yourself to death just to live. Don't really have to leave town to live in the bush though. 10 minutes from anywhere in Fairbanks and you can be in a spot where you won't see another person until you want to. |

I spent first 18 years of life in small town, northern michigan... Off grid wouldn't work for me at all. But I could handle a bit of slowing down and being able to work on something that actually progressed from day to day. |

Aren't most of them felons now? I seem to recall a story about them scamming the free monies that Alaskan residents get. Basically, they were getting the money but did not live in Alaska, at the time.
