When I worked at a liquor store, I went through a champagne phase.  That got a little expensive.  I liked moet nectar.  Now I would probably just buy andre

Some people might call their fridge a "...pretty cabinet..."  I don't

Truth be told, I do keep it in the separate wine fridge

Actual Champagne and not Brut is usually pretty good no matter the brand.

Brut can vary.  I don't mind the cheap stuff.  Cooks, Andre, etc... but it isn't anything close to what champagne tastes like.  There are some $15-$20 bottles of Brut that come close but have yet to find very many under $40 that tastes like champagne.  Certain years of Mumm Brut are fantastic, they rival some of the $90-$150 Champagnes, other years not so much.

Best Champagne I have ever had was Krug Clos Du Mesnilbut but it was north of $700 a bottle.  Try drinking that next to a bottle of the cheap stuff.
Perrier jouet and dom perignon are extremely over ratted.

We pop a bottle of Veuve on New Years eve every year.  It's  good stuff and not too obscene for price.  If I'm paying attention I can find it at Costco for $40 or so.  Good find.

We went on the tour of the area in FR that has the caves and all.  The house that makes Moet & Ch.  Went through the gift shop at the end and of course had to buy a few bottles to show off back home.  When we got home we saw the same label in the grocery store for cheaper than we paid in FR.

We tend to swill the standard Korbel Extry Dry, rather than Brut, since it has higher alcohol, I believe.

Don't drink champagne often but I agree Cristal is excellent, it is right up there with Dom Perignon, I have had both many times, even had Dom Perignon Rose once, but Moët White Star is the one to grab for your general champagne needs like a new years even party.
