Ruger makes a lot fine firearms. I agree with most here, the MKII is probably their best.
I've owned many over my five decades of owning and shooting firearms. 1 MK1 3 MKII's 1 MKIII 2 10-22's P94, P95, 2 P345's and a SR9 3 Single six 22LR's Blackhawk .357mag 2 GP100's Super Blackhawk .44mag Also others I can't think of right now but as you see I've got some experience with Ruger. I've shot many others that friends have owned including the Mini 14. Don't let anyone tell you Ruger's are crap. They are affordable, reliable firearms. |

I have a stainless P95 decock only, a Mark II 5-1/2" bull barrel, and a .44 mag Super Blackhawk. I like their handguns.

Bill Ruger is dead and the company has moved on. They make some great firearms, some that everyone should own, like the 10/22. The ones mentioned in the OP, not so much, especially the P series pistols.

P series pistols built like a rock and just as heavy! Mini 14 looks cool but because of their accuracy and their price why not get a AR, just my 2 cents. I must add I like p pistols they are good hard working pistols!

A lot of Prisons still use Mini-14's. Apparently, they don'e want the guards to actually shoot the prisoners, just launch rounds near them.

I thought the 10/22 and the Ruger MK I/II/III would be discussed here.
The other legendary Ruger is the Ruger Old Army. |

The P series was affordable and dependable. However slide safeties are dumb, and even the poly framed one weighed a god damned ton (it has like 8 oz on a G17 ) The Mini 14 sucked, but I hear it sucks less these days. Neither are "awesome". Neither of them were. The .22 pistol was probably the best thing to come out of Ruger. Easily fixed by anyone with even rudimentary skill. On mine, I replaced the mag safety, spring and bushing with a stainless steel bushing, removed the slide lock detent for "sling-shotting", and removed the loaded chamber indicator for more reliable operation. Polished up the trigger detent, and the trigger bar, and now she works like a house afire. |

I own several Rugars.
MK1 .22 P-89 SR.556 They all function flawlessly. |

Ruger builds a high quality firearm. They just usually have shitty designs.
The p-series pistols were reliable guns. Their revolvers are well above average also. The Mark II 22 was the pinnacle of their success. I own a Super RedHawk in 454 Casull that's a damn fine pistol also. |

I've owned both, and awesome was never something I cared to call them.
Mark II and GP100, we might have something to talk about. |

God I love the P series. I bought a P95 (first firearm purchase ever) back when I was 17 in a person to person transfer. Never fired it and sold it to a pawn shop when I was 21 for xmas money. A few days later a guy I worked with bought it for his wife for xmas. A couple days after that it became known that I sold the pistol they just bought. When I found this out I made it very clear "If you ever decide to sell that pistol call me. I WILL buy it."
Now, 3 or so years later they want to sell it. So, I'm about to buy back my first pistol I ever bought and then sold. Hell, I think my wife might be getting it for me for xmas this year. That's ironic because I originally sold it to buy her an xmas gift, and now she might very well be about to buy it back for me; as an xmas gift. Which dude initially bought it as for his wife. Funny shit. Either way, I'm getting that pistol back |

I've had my P91dc for over 20 years. I've never had one FTF or FTE with it. It'll eat anything you feed it. And, if I run out of rounds, I can beat you to death with it.

I like most everything ruger makes , even Minis and P95s
It is just a little sad how their QC has slipped in recent years especially with the MKIII pistols |

Ruger RSM
Specifically in 416 Rigby Brought back a great round Awesome rifle with details like the in integral quarter rib machined with the barrel. A bargain that would cost 3-4x to reproduce.

Dude have you ever seen a Colt Woodsman Natch Target or a S&W Model 41? Yes, I have seen and fired the colt woodsman, nice gun, but it hasn't been made since 1977 and a national match will cost almost 2,000 bucks. Please tell me which company makes a complete upper suppressor for the colt woodsman. Volquartson has some nice ones for the ruger. I am not saying there haven't been great 22 pistols, but right now, the ruger mk 2 is the best 22 pistol made and it has been that way for some time. If you take into consideration a fairly low cost, a really accurate gun, match quality straight out of the box, it kicks the ass of all other production 22 semi auto pistols. |

I have an LC9 (and am carrying it right now), SBH in .44 mag, two original Vaquaros in .45 colt, a 3 screw BH in .357 and two 10-22s (an early 60s model that is AWESOME and a much shittier 80's model.)

As a seasoned gun enthusiast, the words "Ruger" and "Awesome" do not go together. Best that can be said about anything Ruger makes today, or has made in the past is that they provide functional, utilitarian firearms at a price point that is accessible to everyone.
They only credit I will give Ruger for anything are the MKII line of pistols. Unfortunately they completely destroyed their 22 lineup with the introduction of the MKIII. I have a MKII Gov't Model and MKII Target Slabside and I'll be holding onto to those two items until I die. |
