seriously though.. you'll never like the agricultural quality build of the subie.

Guess it depends on how much you wanna spend though. but the 3.0T (supercharged) S4's are pretty damn nice. I would skip the 4.2 unless you find a well cared for low mileage one. they don't have 300HP but have damn good torque.

Had some expenses when it was getting older, but one to two thousand a year for that quality of vehicle versus a car payment was well worth it.

The dealership isn't going to charge for storage while I decide.  I may still repair it but putting $3400 into it is gonna be tough.  I am getting a detailed estimate today so I can pick and choose what the shop would do.  I've got a very good relationship with them.

It's also electric, and batteries fucking suck.

Did I mention he lives in North Dakota? We all know how much batteries love cold too.

Does Tesla make a nice car? Yes. Does battery technology exist to make it truly viable? No. I'd only consider buying one if they went the Fisker route and put a generator on board.

Another S4.

Just traded in my 2006 S4 with ~55k on it.

Had to get a kid hauler.

On the plus side, I get better gas mileage in an Armada than an S4

I own and have 30K miles on one. No they're not, at least not compared to the B6 generation ones. Not nearly as good in the snow for some reason, and I feel like I'm driving a Volvo. They have somehow nerfed these B8 chassis cars.

OP, the B6 S4 is actually great. 340hp aluminum V8, great car. The new S4 is good on paper but I've never driven one. Given that it's based on the current A4 which sucks, I'm not sure about those.

Condolences on the loss of the old S4. I loved that 2.7 twin turbo engine, I'm impressed with people who keep those for 15 years.

Torsen center differential with abs that functions as limited slip means traction without slip.  Viscous center differentials mean a wheel must slip before torque bias happens.  Spinning wheels have no lateral traction.

I'm currently trying to make a similar decision. Still driving the BMW so I can wait while the Golf R comes out.
I'm currently thinking:  Golf R, Audi s3 or s4, MB CLA45 AMG.
I have enjoyed a string of BMWs but want to try something different.
Drove a Subaru WRX STI and although fun, the ride would be difficult to live with everyday and it feels really cheap. Not to mention you feel like a douche in one if you're out of your 20's.

seriously though.. you'll never like the agricultural quality build of the subie.

Guess it depends on how much you wanna spend though. but the 3.0T (supercharged) S4's are pretty damn nice. I would skip the 4.2 unless you find a well cared for low mileage one. they don't have 300HP but have damn good torque.

s4 motor swap into a TT?  Did it retain the quattro system?  That looks fun!

Sadly I don't fit into a TT.

Yeah, some one did a RS4 driveline into a TT.

not that you couldn't just make more power with a turbo 3.2TT.

but that car was built in like 2001 before there was a 3.2TT.

still a awesome swap though since the quattro driveline is better then the early haldex.

there are RS6's around. they are truely awesome vehicles, big SOB's and only have auto trans. but software alone pushed them to like 550HP.

beware, if you want one find someone in your area who can adequately fix them, and have a lot of money to spend when they do break. I work on a few, torque converters are common failures and its a engine out repair, even valve cover gaskets are engine out repairs. removing the engine is not for amateurs, or shops not properly equipped.  they are like working on exotics.

Have you considered a RS4? they are awesome to drive, that suspension and engine you won't even realize a 4 door car can do that, plus with the S button pushed its pretty fun watching that tach swing over to 8k in a hurry...

don't overlook the S3 or next Golf R, the EA888 family of engines is phenominal. something like 370 HP and 0-60 times at about 3.7 seconds.

And if that doesn't cut it, hang in there for the RS3... 367hp 2.5TFSI (or over 400 with a tune).  And I thought I read that the RS3 would have a new Quattro system of some sort, which will then work it's way down the line to the rest of the cars.
