Glock 21.  No reason for me to buy a full size handgun in a lesser chambering.

If forced to live in a fantasy land where I purchase a full size 9mm, then I say the Beretta 93R.

This.  I've had one since 1993 or so and it's been reliable and awesome.

MP5SD

Then, I'd just get a pistol in a caliber other than 9mm.

Browning Hi Power

I'll probably never need to buy another full-size service pistol, although I do lust after the new HKs.

Beretta 92FS or Beretta 92G. My Italian 92FS shoots 4MOA groups at 80 yards with the standard combat iron sights (though I did have to get a sight pusher and adjust them; the gun was shooing about 3" left at that range).  Laser-grips and outstanding magazines make it a no-brainer for me.  I'm in a competitive shooting league and the glock fanboys always disparage my 92.... until they see what it can do.

If the 92 weren't available I'd get a Sig 226

The Lahti L-35 is probably the classiest 9mm ever made.  The SIG P210 might be better made but the L-35 has the sweetest trigger ever.  The trigger on my L-35 makes the finest Hammerli target trigger look like mush.   The L-35 is also more accurate than anything except for a Swiss Luger.

The P210 is also tremendously accurate.  But the edge has to go the L-35.   The L-35 also has a certain style.  Here is a picture of mine.  There were only 9300 Lahti L-35s ever made and the serial number of mine is within 20 digits of the end of production.  It was probably made on the very last day of production.

And here is a picture of my L-35 sitting next to my P210

I know that they seem to be out of favor here but my Beretta 92F has served me well for 26 year without a hiccup.  It's earned every scrape, ding and mark that it has, never felt under gunned or that it was too big to carry.  Tried many replacements in those years but always returned to the old girl and even though I have several pistol in my collection, its the first pistol I think of when someone says "what pistol do you have?"

I have an HK P30 which I would probably have ride by me in case of an actual emergency.

However, Gen 4 G17 is the true winner for all of the said reasons already.

M&P9 w/o manual safety w/night sights.

Once I had it in my hands, it would get 'the treatment' like the one I have now: Trijicon Pro sights, full 360 deg. stipple, magwell beveled, trigger guard undercut, finger contact points stippled on the frame sides, slide milled for weight reduction and enhanced serrations on the sides and top for improved weak hand cocking, then top it off with a 3lb trigger job with a crisp break and a short, crisp tactile reset.

It'd look just like this:
