HMMWV
Starting at $10,000 off road only?
I think I saw $27,000 on the books when they took my beloved M151 from me and gave me one so they seem to hold there value...

I'm guessing they'll go in the 18 to 21k range.  There's alot of pent up demand for humvees.

I know a guy near San Antonio who has one of the first gen humvees the Marines traded to a company who later auctioned them off.  Part of that batch that, until now, were the only legal humvees out there in the wild.  IIRC, he paid around 25k for it.  But it had very low miles on it and looked really good.

Most of the mil vehicles you see in movies these days aren't owned by studios, IIRC.  They are rented from companies that own fleets specifically for movie rentals OR from individual collectors.

I had a guy contact me about some of my trucks once. I never did learn what the movie was he was renting for, but it was several States away and the compensation was pretty meager, so I declined.

Typically, you'd get an SF97 for the vehicle which is basically like a bill of sale from the Federal government.  You would then take that into your local tax office and get it titled.

That's what I've done with all of my military vehicles.

It appears that one of the conditions for the release of the humvees was that the Feds would NOT provide an SF97.  Which makes it difficult to title.  Impossible in some States.

No. You will receive form SF97.

That form along with a paid invoice can be used to title the vehicle. It is commonly done with the other surplus trucks.

Nice opportunity for anyone with the extra cash and off-road space but gonna be a bitch to find parts for.

Does anyone know if AM General would even sell replacement HMMWV parts to civilians?  Some important stuff like the brake system is different from the H1.

Easy method.

Find completely wrecked H1, buy title and vin plates (cheap)

Register said H1, attach vin plates to your Humvee.

The paper work that is required to be signed for the end use stipulates "No Highway" use.

In places like Montana a person can drive an off road vehicle on by roads and streets as long as you have lights and mirrors.

I think the intent is to keep it off the interstates and major highways.

Pull over people driving them on Interstate's and Highways and writing them tickets?

It's not rocket science.

People drive side-by-sides and 4 wheelers on the streets of my town all the time, cops don't even give them a second glance.

You pull that shit out on I-90 and if you don't get killed, they'll stop you and throw you in the back seat.

In rural communities there's a lot of stuff you can drive and move on the frontage roads, streets and gravel roads that you can't do on the interstates and highways, that's what they are there for.

In my town you can legally ride a horse on city streets as a daily form of transportation, but you can't do it on the interstate.

How can you determine what vehicles were highway legal and which ones weren't? There would be no way.

There's a ton of humvees out there already.

WOW a 20 year old military vehicle with only 1449 miles.

This is an auction, I wonder what they will really go for.

How can you determine what vehicles were highway legal and which ones weren't? There would be no way.

There's a ton of humvees out there already.

I was told by the guy who handles Iron Planet's stuff at Ft. Hood that we won't be able to use them on the road due to safety restrictions.

But who knows.

The paper work that is required to be signed for the end use stipulates "No Highway" use.

In places like Montana a person can drive an off road vehicle on by roads and streets as long as you have lights and mirrors.

I think the intent is to keep it off the interstates and major highways.

So it's not that it can't be driven on the roads but just no highways.

How do they enforce that?

That's going to have to be fought in court right?

If they allow folks to register these as ORVs or custom built cars and they get ticketed on the highways, then it's going to come down to the individual jurisdictions to figure it out.

I imagine they'll fall under these laws for me.

By the time they are all in the low 3,000s they'll be selling them at $10K a piece, in the low 1,000s they'll be having a hard time getting rid of them.

Lot's of people are going to be questioning whether they can even use them.

I want to get one.

Yep.  Whoever paid 41k for one must have thought it came with a lifetime supply of free blowjobs or something.
