For me, it's the 30rd magazine. Seems unwieldy compared to a 30rd mag in an AR. Too unwieldy for a semi auto

It's a decent rifle and the conventional gas piston design has definitely earned it's place in the military firearms hall of fame.
However, Eugene Stoner's gas operated bolt carrier system (not direct impingement) is superior and beautifully simple. Thus I buy superior guns from KAC instead of Eastern European garbage.

Terrible sights, short sight radius, horrible trigger, horrible safety, magazine retained by a protrusion rather than depression, charging handle on wrong side, terrible for mounting optics and they smell like communism.

I don’t hate the AK…
The quality of a firearm can be measured in several ways. There is its usefulness as a tool or weapon. There is its collectors value. There is its value as a piece of fine craftsmanship. And there’s its value a range toy. Now, the AK is a decent weapon, but it’s inferior to the AR and many other modern weapons. The AK is hardly an example of fine craftsmanship. The AK has definite collectors value as the weapon of the bad guys, terrorists, and commies. And the AK is a great range toy if you are more interested in doing mag dumps than hitting small targets at 100+ yards. Don’t get me wrong. Although I don’t have one, I would love to get one someday for its collectors value and for doing the occasional mag dump. They are a blast to shoot. But if I ever, God forbid, end up in a situation where I need a combat rifle, the AK will not be my choice unless it’s all I can get. |
