Strange movie, but kind of stresses about not living your life in monotony.
Anyone else seen it?
Your takes?

I liked it.

A lot of the simple minded GD'ers won't get it

Good movie, kind of sums up the whole middle class lifestyle of the 90's. Wasn't he depressed because he basically had too much free time and nothing to fill it? Life is the complete opposite today. There's a few members here who remind me of Chris Cooper's character.

Good flick. But one has to understand what is really going on.
Most people can't get past the infatuation he has with the cheerleader.

Got a minute?

For you Brad, I've got 5.

I use that line every chance I get.  Great movie.  Whatever his weirdness or politics, Kevin Spacey is one hell of an actor.

Trivia - Thora Birch Was actually only 16 years old at the time she was filmed nude for a scene in American Beauty (1999). The topless at the window while her neighbor filmed her.  It passed MPAA since it was deemed artistic and not sexual.

I think a lot of middle aged guys feel like that. Just tempted to say Fuck It and go back to when you were the happiest and had the least amount of responsibilities

One thing I didn't like was the opening. I thought the movie kind of "tipped its hand" too much.

And if you get too wrapped up in trying to recapture the past, you wreck your present.

Very easy to lose sight of what's really important in life.

My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell.

Pretty good.

My favorite part was the drive-through.

I could designate any scene with the car as a close second.

Most people think there is some destination that they will come to and "be happy"

They don't realize ,there is no destination until it's too late. When they do realize it, they usually fuck shit up trying to "fix" it .

I realized it too late and got ate the fuck up with hate. Wasted over a decade .

As Joe Dirt says, life's a garden , dig it .

Worth seeing, even if it seems a little pretentious in spots.

Chris Cooper's character is a stereotypical vision of what Hollywood thinks a conservative is.  That was my only real quibble.
