I bought a FNX45T this time last year on a whim. Shot 300 rounds through it. It is a sweet shooter, but completely impractical for anything other than a range gun. Too big and heavy to carry, expensive magazines, expensive holsters, etc. It sits in the safe 99% of the time.

So what is the deal here? I know it was one of the guns developed for the military's full size .45 program. I know there are others like it. Are they just for show, or what?

It makes a great nightstand gun, although I prefer my SAR K2-45 over my FNX for that role.

They were designed for men.

I DO carry a USP compact tactical .45 every day.

I use mine for home defense, as a car gun, for winter carry, hiking in the mountains, and blasting stuff in the dead of night while suppressed with my green goggles on (see avatar).  Full sized .45's are filled with win!

It's not designed to be concealed. You can carry it but I'd say open carry would be more appropriate.

Bullet technology in terms of terminal performance has gotten way better. Look at the FBI's duty round / caliber selection over the last 100 years.

My assumption is that tactical .45 pistols are intended for use with a suppressor.

I bought the FNX45 Tactical and wanted to like it but the spongy trigger, no tactile reset, and lack of aftermarket parts ruined it for me.

Eta: Plus G17 9mm for the win!

Shooting my friends FNP .45 with a red dot on the top is giggle inducing.

Once my suppressor comes in I am definitely getting one

I bought an HK tactical and suppressed it.

At least for USPSA, that red dot would put you into Open, and you would get torn up compared to the other race guns. I wouldn't think that'd be a great idea for competition.

It doesn't come with the red dot, you have to add that, third party.

I carry a threaded barrel g17 with tti mag extensions with appendix carry every day. Its either that or the usp 45 full size

I am not dumb enough to try and conceal it. Obviously.

I wouldn't mind it as a winter carry, but I just can't see WHY over my G23.

As far as a night stand gun goes, my Daniel Defense MK18 will serve that purpose as soon as it gets out of NFA jail. Suppressed eventually.

I just can't see keeping a $1200 gun in the safe all the time. Caliber debates aside. I don't own a 9MM weapon and doubt I ever will.

How does it compare size-wise to a G21? Because that's my EDC gun currently...

If you had the right cover garment, how well would a full size .45 conceal in a shoulder holster (or any full size gun for that matter regardless of caliber)?

Providing you actually practiced drawing and reholstering A LOT with an empty gun so you don't end up ventilating your weak side lung.

In before any Sonny Crocket/Miami Vice comments.

I have one, 4k rounds through it now with zero issues.  Prefer it to my FNX 45 Tac.  Much better trigger, better sights, grip feels better in my hand.  Only negative is the weight.  I picked mine up for $375 almost two years ago.

Sadly I've fired one. I liked it. However the safety is huge. Not a good gun for thumbs high shooting.

*hnnnnghh* I dig those. A lot.

Edit: probably would stick with the M&P series if I got one in .45 though. I dig large handguns.
