So rioting has broken out in a major US city (like say one in Missouri), and YOU are in complete charge of the response, what do you do?

This question was brought up in class today, just curious how the answers will compare.

Seriously: Have the firetrucks spray the crowd, but from a high angle. The point would be soaking them down on a cold night, not blowing them off their feet.

That's a good question. As much as I'd like to say that I would implement a tough police response, that warned of and used lethal force, against rioters, the police are a target for critics. And it doesn't matter if a shooting is justified when many observers hold double standards.

In some ways, letting the rioters and looters have some free reign keeps the negative attention on them and may lead some previous critics of police to advocate a more stringent law enforcement response.

I was thinking that it would only take 1 person to do this...I don't even think you would have to finish off a 30rd mag before word would be out that its time to stop.

Dusk to dawn curfew.

Overwhelming National Guard and police presence at businesses.

Good guys available to engage at major intersections.

Options available include water to hose down protestors. Tear gas. Rubber bullets.

At first hint of violence, give the protestors five minutes to lie down. If they refuse, hose them down, deploy tear gas, overwhelming advance on them, arresting and securing with hand and leg cuffs and place them on the ground until all are secured.

Use rubber bullets is also possible for those not lying on ground.

Bottom line: better tactics are likely but there is one overarching premise: Accept no violence. End it immediately.

Mass arrests. Cordon off areas, surround the rioters, squeeze them into a circle and peel away (arrest) the outer layer until they're all carted off. Campos de FEMA.

In Mo, a person can only make an arrest if they personally witness a class A felony crime being committed. All others, you better just be a good witness and call 911.

If you read up on chapter 563, you can find out when lethal force may be used to protect yourself and others.

why not just shoot every molotov AS it gets lit?
we've all seen what a .22 to a liquid filled glass bottle does. the liquid spray is not only impressive, but wide spread.
