Ok, we can build an AR-15 completly from purchased parts.  Same with a PC.

Of course, you can build anything, but what can we reasonably make at home and enjoy equal or better quality to store bought?

Cars and trucks...

My current build (1949 Chevy AD) has parts and peices from many various makes n models...

1950 Chevy car
1951 Chevy Truck
1980 Camaro
1980 Chevy truck
1979 Vette
2001 Vette
2009 Mustang
2010 Impala
2004 Crown Vic
1999 Jeep Cherokee
2001 Explorer
1999 S10
2004 Dodge truck
1939 Lincoln
1940-ish Peirce Arrow firetruck
1949 Buick Sedanette

....I am sure I am forgetting a few too. I use parts that fit a form and function rule....Its gotta look good but be functional and easy to maintain. Course everything is custom and fitted but the basic concept applies.

Edit: build thread link to see what I'm talkin bout:
