According to Cleveland police, witnesses first reported around 3:30 p.m. that a male was in the playground area outside Cuddell Recreation Center, waving a gun and pointing it at people. When two officers arrived, they found the boy and ordered him to raise his hands. He did not comply with the officers’ orders and reached into his waistband, according to police. Shots were fired, and he was hit in the torso. Police say the weapon the boy had was "an airsoft type replica gun resembling a semi-automatic pistol.” They said the orange safety indicator had been removed. |

We used to walk around our neighborhood with real guns at that age, no one said a thing. We also didn't wear helmets when we rode our bikes, didn't argue with cops, and sometimes even rode dirt bikes in the street.

This kid, at 12, was already defiant enough to take on adult policemen. If he would have respected and obeyed the officers commands he would be alive. I have a feeling if he would have made it to his 20th birthday he would have negatively affected some people's lives. |

My nephew is 12... He's as tall as I am. In a stressful situation it would be easy to mistake a 12 year old for an adult. And 12 year olds can shoot you dead too, so even if he looked like a kid he's still a threat.
I really hope that the kid is OK. It's a case of a stupid kid doing stupid kid stuff and getting shot for it. |
|
Twelve is absolutely old enough to recognize authority, the fact that he was enjoyed the airsoft gun meant he understood what a gun represents, ie.shooting people. The officers weren't playing and didn't have toy guns, twelve, 7th grade? That's old enough to understand. I just can't relate to that. I wonder if the parents realized their kid was too immature/disobedient to be running around with something that could get him shot...

I don't know why I laughed at the part about one of the officers being treated for an ankle injury. Sounds like the kid will live; hopefully, he learned an important lesson.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes? View Quote /this The mentally retarded boy down the street was pointing a black plastic 1991 pistol at cars driving by. He'd put the pistol inside his waistband and play gangster. Thankfully someone found the pistol laying in the yard while walking his dog and the play pistol got lost. |

View Quote I'd shoot someone waving that at me, and I'm a civilian. Disobeying an order from LE is just icing on the cake. |

Article sure tried it's hardest to emphasize the caller saying the gun was probably fake. Didn't bother to point out the guy saying "but I don't know" or the fact that it doesn't matter either way. If it looks like a gun it'll be treated like a gun. I wouldn't even care if it did have the orange tip on it.

We always headed to the woods with our 22s walking through neighborhoods. No one said a thing. We rode our minibikes and later our dirt bikes all over the place and never wore helmets. No one said a thing. Well, no one said a thing unless we got out of line which rarely happened because we would get an ass whooping. We didn't know what a "time out" was outside of sports. Different time for sure……. wish we could go back. Oh, it's tragic but good shoot. |

Sucks, but 12 years old is old enough to know what "put your hands in the air" means.
Stupid games, stupid prizes, and all of that. |

My dad always taught me to not be stupid with toy guns saying the cops would shoot you.
I feel bad for the cop, no cop wants to shoot a kid. |

Well Hells Bells. Kid needs to become a Community Organizer so he can be POTUS someday. Then he can speak with authority about racism and Police Brutality.
